Does breast feeding stop being as painful after time?

With my first child I attempted to breast feed, but one problem was that she would only do it from one side. Also, it hurt so badly that I wanted to cry. They were rock hard and my nipples were completely raw! It even hurt just to shower so I quit. I would really like to try this time, for the baby and to save money. Does the pain stop? Or is it full on torture the entire time?

It stops after about two weeks. Of it doesn't your baby's latch might be wrong

I breast fead my 1st and your nipples have to get use to it the most important part is getting alot of the darker circles around the nipple in the babys mouth walmart has a cream you can use before and after breastfeeding it works well i used it for about 2 weeks till baby and I both had it all down pat and I would cry sometimes it would hurt so bad just stick with it and it gets easier... goodluck

It should stop. Did you have a lactation consultant? Did your baby have a tongue tie/lip tie? Was it just bad latch? There's so much that goes into it, but the hardest part of breastfeeding should be getting through the initial encouragement period. After the first week or two, pain is definitely not normal.
