hi everyone and thank you so much for your support
i went to the dr and had my baby checked on the scan and i am glad to tell you that there were no soft markers however i requested that the amnio be done and i am still waiting for the results which will be available in two weeks time>. i must say itrust that God will help me and my child in whatever situation.
i will keep you guys posted and thanks once again
thanks to everyone for the positive response, i really appreciate it. i cant wait for my dr appointment which is in only february the 9th. but the sleepless nights and the stress that im going through too much at the moment but above all i trust God....
The term "positive" is very misleading with these tests. All they do is take a few factors (soft markers such as nuchal fold measurement, length of femur bone, etc.) and combine those results with odds based on age, and results of bloodwork (ratio between the hormones free beta and Papp a) to come up with odds. It is not a conclusive test. It's intent is to help you decide whether or not you want more invasive testing such as amnio done which will tell you 99% for certain. So, your odds of having a baby with DS are 1:140. The use of the term positive just means that your results are within a certain range.
If you put this into perspective, your odds are very low. there is 139 out of 140 chance baby does not have DS. My odds after first trimester screen were 1:13. My son is completely typical. I did opt for amnio at the time to know for sure, but he was fine.
Best of luck to you.
I got a positive test but they did more measurements in the anatomy scan and said that the measurement on the baby's neck was still small so they think it was a false positive. They told me my chances started a 1 in 560 but the measurement changed it to 1:2560 but the blood test moved it back to 1:810. then the Dr said i have more of a chance of getting hit crossing the street and not to stress out over it.
I did a little research and they do get a lot of positives that are completely normal when the baby comes out. Try not to think about it and just remember that it is still going ot be your baby either way.
This is not a positive test, it does not test for downs symdrome, just what your risk is. Your risk is 1:140, which is less than 1%.
