It honestly just depends on your body. With my first I was dilated a fingertip and barely effaced and randomly at 38 weeks my water broke and I went into labor. With my second I was 3-4cm dilated and 80-90% effaced for 2 months before I gave birth at 39 weeks.
i delievered both my children early @ 32 weeks and @ 37 weeks. i was walking around @ 4cm with my son i didnt even know it.
When i had my first daughter, i was about 41 weeks and thought i would never go into labor. Boy was i ever wrong. My doctor told me the same thing. I was in the hospital fixing to be induced and when i got there they checked and i wasn't dilated at all. 20 minutes later i got up to use the bathroom, i got about halfway there and my water broke. When they checked me, i was already 4 cm dilated. In just a matter of minutes everything can change. I was in labor for 38 hours and ended with a c section, but it was all worth it. So no matter what they tell you, it can change in minutes. Good luck :)
I was early.. Around 38 weeks I was a finger tip. My doctor told me she didn't think I would go into labor by myself and set my induction date for 39.4 weeks. I walked around miserable and mad because I thought I wouldn't go into labor and would have to have an induction which I really didn't want because the csection rate is higher when induced :/ but guess what! My doctor was wrong at 39.3 weeks I went into full labor and had my son at 39.4 my doctor was wrong. But the time I went to the hospital I was at a 4 almost 5
The thing is doctors really can't say if and when you will efface or dilate. Neither can we because everyone in different. You could go into labor tomorrow and be 3cm your body does wonders! Don't loose hope that your body will do what it's suppose to.
I'm sure you are trying things like sex (mostly or the sperm to help thin you out) and other methods to get baby out! Keep doing it! Expectally the sperm part. ( my husband and I were obviously successful ;] )
