epidural and fully dilated ?

Ima be 33 weeks on Wednesday and I already have a pretty good birth plan my question is I don't wanna go to the hospital until I'm fully dialated . Hospitals freak me out and I won't be able to sit in one spot for hours so ima be home and doing regular things while I'm home . Question can I still get an epidural when I'm about 9 cm or fully dilated ?

If you want an epidural you should probably go in earlier because if its later on, you may have the baby before it kicks in. A friend of mine did this, waited at home and by the time she got there it was too late and she got the epidural, had her baby felt everything and then went numb afterwards

They general won't do it past 8 like others said. They try not to because labor is very painfull at this point and ot is very difficult for the women to keep still during insertion. This puts her at risk of a spinal a injury.

If you make it to 9cm without an epidural then you won't need one. Lol :)

You do not want to labor at home until fully dialated and then head to the hospital. You'll hardly be able to move, much less walk. You'll more than likely end up delivering in the car.
Also, if you labor through to 10cm, you don't need an epidural. You'll have already made it through the worst part. Delivering baby is a piece of cake compared to the rest of labor. It feels like a relief. There's a little bit of burning pain, but it's nothing compared to everything before. It's also the finish line.

I understand where you're coming from except the epidural part. I want to labor at home as long as possible because I hate the hospital. Except I don't want an epidural and I feel like this will help me with that. The closest I've seen contractions get and still be able to make it to the hospital was 2 minutes apart I don't want to go that far because I don't wanna pop in the car. I also have medical issues with me though so I have to have a hospital birth.

Once you order the epidural, it takes about 45mins to an hour to get the pain relief. This is why most doctors won't order it after a certain cm, because it won't actually ease you in time.

If you wait until you are fully dilated and then try to make it to the hospital, you are taking a huge chance on having your baby on your own. You can not guarantee that you'll make it to the hospital in time to have medical assistance. If you are planning on having a hospital birth, you should try to get there once contractions are about 3mins apart. Early labor is best spent at home, but once things are farther along you'll want to be there & monitored unless you have a plan and procedure set up for a home birth.

They normally won't give it to you after 8 because your in the most painful stage of labour and your moving around to much having contractions to close together its to hard to get it placed right and since it goes in you'r spine you don't want any mistakes
