I got an epidural with my fist and was in labor for 12 hours to hat includes pushing and with my second daughter I got it as well and was in labor for 3 1/2 hours
I couldn't feel my legs after getting one with my daughter. I tried holding out but I have a low tolerance for pain so I ended up getting it. I'm pretty sure I'll get one this time as well.
From my experience it made my labor move more quick.
I wish labor was as easy as a cervix check haha! The epidural made my labor go faster, I was too tensed up and stressed I wasn't dilating but after the epidural I was a 10 within a hour. Sure women have done it for centuries without medication but why be In pain when you can be at ease!
I had no issues with my labor progressing, my milk supply or recovery following my daughter birth. Just like every pregnancy is different the way everyone reacts to medicines could be different
A lot of my friends say if they could go back in time and not have it, they would. They all complain of MAJOR back pains, even a year later.
Not only will it possibly slow down labour but it will also slow down your recovery time. Not to mention if you plan on breastfeeding, it will take longer for your milk to come in because of the drugs in the epidural.
I'm a ftm too... I've been told by multiple people that epidurals slow labor down... And if you twitch when they go to administer it you could go paralyzed... My one friend couldn't feel her whole lower half for two days after she gave birth due to the epidural...
Well of course you could do it without one! Women have for centuries lol. But I think it's silly that she compared a cervix exam to labor and contractions....an exam lasts a minute or two. I'm going with the epidural I think. I was told it slows down labor a little, but I feel being comfortable and not freaking out is worth it. I have a pretty good pain tolerance but my anxiety is crazy.
I was told by my midwife that your labor will last longer if you take an epidural vs. going natural. But then again everyone's pain tolerance are different
