When my mom didn't get the episiotomy with my little bro nd sis, she actually didn't tear at all. Just stretched. However if they did do the episiotomy there would've been an unnecessary cut.
I mean to each their own, it might look cleaner to get the cut, but personally I don't like how vaginas look anyways haha I rather it not hurt and have minimal damage than look nice.

Im not entirely sure when they decide to do it  but if it is just standard once you say yes then i would say no because i never tore with either of my kids so an episiotomy would have been redundant.

I've heard that it is better to do the cut than to tear because you could rip on the opposite side which would be hard to sew up....I only wish my Dr would have made it smaller (he thought I was having a 10 pounder, but he was only 7.5 but baby was in distress so he was playing it safe). I don't know how many stitches I got, I stopped counting after 30 minutes of his sewing.

It hurt for a long time afterwards, even after it healed or the wound closed up. I just made hubby be extra careful and lube well for sex. I'll ask if I can forgo cutting this time.

I tore and had an episiotomy with my first an it hurt to sit for two weeks. With my son I just had an episiotomy and I've had minimal soreness. But I've had a lot going on so maybe I just haven't noticed. Lol.

I had one with my son 4 years ago and tore naturally just a little with my daughter a year later but I will still get pain at my episiotomy sight sometimes and it was sooo hard to use the bathroom after tearing is definitely better

My doc told me its better to get cut then tear because they can stitch it better because no one really knows how the tear will tear. I got a stage 4 cut which is from top to bottom to be honest I was in so much pain I didnt feel it. My babies was coming sunny side up so I had no choice or I could of broke his neck on accident.

Yes it is much better to tear than have an episiotomy as when they cut you they usually go through more layers of muscles than what a tear does.... usually, anyhow there is no reason to think that either will happen, do your pelvic floor excersies and you can do perineal massage to help as well, also any good health care provider should tell you to stop pushing when babies head is crowning and pant or breathe bubs head out, if they do then your likely hood of tearing or needing a cut is reduced :)

it's definitely better to tear naturally because then you'll only tear as much as you need to whereas if you have an epIsiotomy they'll cut nd a lot of the times they cut more than you need
