expressing colostrum at 21 wks, safe?

So I got a breast pump and am just curious if it'd be safe to express colostrum at 21 weeks.
I read that it's a good idea to express some and then store it in a syringe in the freezer until the baby is born, in case you can't express enough in the first few days of baby's life, so that baby can get the good kick-start they need with the stored amount.
but at 21 weeks is this safe? Or is it best to wait until further along in the pregnancy?
Thanks in advance :)

Momtothesecondpower... you couldn't be more wrong.

And no, its not a good idea. Chances are if your able to express at 21 weeks you'll be fine.

Don't pump until the baby is here! Couple reasons, first nipple stimulation can cause contractions. Second, your milk changes based on what your baby needs at a specific time. The colostrum is incredibly nutrient dense and necessary for babies during the first few days. The milk changes after that as your babys needs change. Pumping would mess up your bodies natural process. Its awesome though that you want to make sure your baby gets breast milk from the start though! Try not to worry, only a small percentage of women truely cant breastfeed.  If for some reason you can't, ask your doctor about using donated breast milk instead of formula. Good luck!

Ummm everyone says "come in", my third child I know. You hear doctors say that all the time. Colostrum and breastmilk are different in a way. Colostrum is the healthiest and baby needs it! :) No pumping this early!

Okay first of all the milk your baby drinks when its born IS colostrum then days 2 to 5 itis transitional milk and after that its what we call mature milk.
Second of all your milk doesn't "come in" its already there. It simply changes and increases in supply. You start producing colostrum at week 10 of pregnancy.
However I'm not educated on whether it would be okay to pump right now so that's something to ask your doctor.

Momtothesecondpower that is very incorrect, your babies first meal is colostrum due to the fact that milk take a few days to come in. Colostrum has the most nutrients in it so its important the baby gets it. Don't pump this early at all. Alot of ppl wait till 38-39 weeks to pump because it can help bring on labor.

I was told it'll stop the milk supply if you do this

It does take a couple of days for your milk to come in but not worth pumping now. Your body wont be producing much and it would just be putting so much pressure on your system.

Colostrum is not what the baby eats when the baby is born it turns to breast milk!!
Also pumping can trick your uterus into contracting causing labor!! Do not pump your breasts until after the baby comes it would be a waste and very dangerous
