fever and hallucinations

i know its the wrong forum but it seems to me no one responds at the right forum for this question so ill ask the parents here for advice. my 3 year old last night had temp and hallucinations he thought there were bugs on the furniture among other strange things and comments thought birds were flyin in the house etc. so 2day he had 103 temp again so the medicine brought it down but took him to the doc anyway. doc says he was ok now (hes symptom free right now) but the sympyoms sounded like menangitis and if they arose again and vomiting or walkin into wall stiff neck go to er. sooooo what do u guys think? i have 6 kids never seen this and i have a daughter who has been very ill with her sickness and ive seen here 105+ and never seen her hallucinate. whats ur thoughts and experiences on this? thanks guys

neecy~ of course it's not something you just say to do. I know quite abit about meningitis and how it's diagnosed and the symptoms because my lil brother had to have 3 spinal taps as a baby to check and see if he had it due to severely high fevers and other stuff.  I wasn't trying to upset you or anything by saying that. and yes, dr's have different views on how to treat and with what meds.

When my firstborn was in the hospital for 3 months I was always hearing different diagnoses treatments from them. :)

yea i use motrin and yes they do a spinal which is a painful procedure to put a child through unless they got some solid belief so since he keeps going in and out of a fever they have there doubts but if the hallucinations come back and a few other things stiff neck vomiting these are what they told me to look out for well in that case i was told to go to the er immediatly. he was stable when he seen doc and is stable now.a spinal ***** so its not somethin u just say do it just in case u wanna be real sure before u put them thru that and since hes in and out of ok the more the day goes on the less i think menningitis. and his doc dont like me to go from motrin to tylenol which can suck cuz sometimes 6 hours the fever has long been back i know some docs say alternate em his says pick one and stay with it

FYI if it were meningitis they would want to do a spinal tap to check I believe.  When I was young and had a fever during a chicken pox outbreak I hallucinated there were bugs everywhere, my mom says I was just screaming "bugs, mommy, bugs!"

if tylenol doesn't work for the fever you may wanna try some motrin too.

I would just keep an eye on him, like the Dr. said...I personally remember when I was reallly young I had an ear infection and fever and I was hallucenating...Just give him fluids and tylenol, because high fevers can cause febrile seizures. how high was his temp last night?

I would definitely take him back to the er or to an after hours clinic just to have him looked at. If he is having a fever that high then it definitely warrants it =)

I think that all kids suffer differently from not feeling well and having a fever. Just because your daughter didn't have a problem with hallucinations doesn't mean that your little boy won't. My kids are completely different. I have one that was always sick with ear aches and such and my youngest has only had one issue in the last 3.5 years of his life and he never acted any different then when he was feeling well. I would definitely say keep a close eye on him and make sure that the fever doesn't come back. Poor baby I hope he feels better soon =)
