Was anyone else diagnosed with it? When I saw my midwife today she said I have it but wasn't too concerned about it.... I'm really upset and feel like a failure, I don't know,  maybe I could've done something differently to prevent this from happening.

I think as long as the baby doesn't pass through the birth canal without the antibiotics everything should be fine

Thats a good question...i wouldn't think that you'd want to deliver quicker, but they would probably want to start the IV antibiotics pretty soon after...def ask your midwife!

It's very common, it's not a std, it's just bacteria in the vagina. There's no way you couldve prevented getting it. And it is nothing to worry about, they givw you ssomething during birth to prevent you from giving it to your baby

Thanks everyone for your responses, I felt horrible after she told me but now it puts my mind more at ease.  Now what happens if your water breaks,  would you have to deliver the baby a lot quicker with gbs?

I was positive and researched it to death, because I felt like that to. I couldn't find anything at all about how you get it or prevent it or anything. Some women just have it as part of their normal bacteria.  Its only a problem if it infects the baby during birth, but they will give you IV antibiotics during labor so the chances of that happening are very very low. You didn't do anything wrong, don't feel bad!

I got tested for it today. Not sure if I have it or not yet..  I Googled it tho because I wanted to know exactly what it was and what causes it, it said it's normal, It's not an std or anything and most women have it no matter what they do. I guess there's no way to really prevent it so don't beat yourself up over it hun! :)))

It's common during pregnancy but women can get it any time. I had it a few years ago. They just give you antibiotics at the time of birth to protect baby.

Its  something that a lot of pregnant woman get, its something that you can only get while pregnant. I believe they just treat you with an antibiotic in the hospital through your IV and sometimes you have to stay an extra day for testing but its nothing that you should worry about that would really harm your baby long as you get antibiotics
