has anyone had an HSG or hysterosalpingography

Im scheduled to have this done on the 11th and was just wondering if any of you ladies ttc have ever had this done. I was given a pantlet to read on it but I wanna know what to expect from someone who has been through it. My husband and I are just having testing done, any inputs?

I forgot to say I took an 800mg ibuprofen before the test and it only hurt for about 10-15 minutes then I was OK and even went out for red lobster after :-)

I had the hsg test done back in September and it was horrible. Not trying to scare you but it was the most painful thing I've ever had done in my life and I don't consider myself to be whimpy when it comes to pain. I know some people this test doesn't bother at all. My Dr said it was the balloon pumping up in the cervix that hurts and if they don't use the balloon it isn't painful. He also told me he wasnt going to let the lady that did mine do them anymore since she wouldnt stop using the balloon. I would recommend requesting they not blow the balloon and that should make it much much better. Good luck! I recommend the Valium too if they will give it to you!

I had mild cramping nothing severe.  I took Tylenol before the test.  Had s little spotting but other than that no big deal.  Good luck

It depends on how good the doctor is, but it is mildly crampy, and not particularly painful.  They might give you a Valium, if so, take it.  Then it will be only of minor interest to you if it's mildly crampy.  lol  Watching the dye go through the tubes on the video screen is interesting.
