my son was born late and he had a bowel movement.. he was on a ventaltor for 4 days then just on oxgyen. i didnt hold him for 7 days.. he was out of NICU in 11 days he did have breathing problems till he was about 3 then he got strong and is completly fine. he is 6 now and doing great in school. it is very hard. i know. i left the hospital 5 hours after giving birth to him for he was transported 50 miles away i stayed by his side day and night.
im praying for you and have faith that everything will be alright.. did they say why they thought he pooped? my son was past due and that was the reason

mY daughter was a preemie at 30 weeks gestation and was in the NICU for 15 days. I have not ahd a baby swallow meconium but I do know what it is like to leave your new baby at the hospital. I was given a little blanket thing that I wore under my clothes to bed then the next day she had it in her bed and it smelled like mommy:) Just touch him and talk to him as often as you can and he will know you are there for him and you will see his responce to you and that will help with the bonding.

I will pray for him and he will some home soon! Just get your rest too and eat!!!

My nephew swallowed some merconium, and he had to be in the NICU for a few days.  He just celebrated his 9th birthday!  It was a hard few days for all of us, but we did get some time with him.  He was all hooked up to wires and stuff.  But, he went home about a week or so after he was born.  Good luck!

I'm also sorry that you're going through this!  I have a friend whose son had a BM during labour.....and the labour was difficult, besides (he needed to be turned and removed using forceps).  They were in the hospital for 3 days, I think - and he's a strong, healthy little boy now.  I pray that your son will have th same outcome.  It sounds like all of the right things are being done....I hope he'll be home with you soon.  Stay strong!! (hug)
