heart shaped uterus?

I'm on my third pregnancy... & this is the first time a doc. Tells me I have a heart shaped uterus. I have two healthy boys that I went full term on (40 weeks). Doc said not to worry. But it just seems a bit weird I'm barley finding out. Ugh! & I can't help but to worry! :/ Has anyone gone through this experience?

Also, my Dr gave me an u/s to check my kidneys. He said sometimes women who have a bicornuate uterus could also have an abnormal kidney. They just checked mine the same day as my 12w u/s.

I know sometimes the baby runs out of room and ends up breech at the end. Did you ladies deliver naturally? My first son turned, but my water broke at 33w.

Im not sure about "heart shaped" ive never heard of that, but last October I found out I was pregnant, went to my first appt and was told my uterus is "shaped weird" and they told me "your fetus has detached and is no longer living"..this pregnancy i went to a different doctor and was told uterus is perfectly fine and baby is well. I feel like i was "tricked" into abortion or something, just doesnt make sence at all to me. i hope all works out with you!

Heart shape uterus is medically referred to as a septate uterus. It isn't something that just happened to you, you were born with it. If you've already been pregnant and carried those babies to term then you don't need to worry. I found out I had a septate uterus about 2 years ago and I panicked thinking this was something new. Doc informed me it's how I was born and it's no big deal if I've already been pregnant and had to issues with preterm labor/babies. No worries :)

I have a bicornuate uterus as well. My first son was born at 33 weeks, that's how they noticed mine. I start progesterone injections next week to help reduce my chances of preterm labor.

One of the warnings we were given when trying to conceive, was that if the baby implants in one of the horns, I had a higher chance of miscarriage. Both times ours implanted low, but my first pregnancy I had A LOT of bleeding. Other than that, the only other thing I've read that relates to me, is having more painful menstrual cycles.

My Dr also says the BU shape can cause more back pain during pregnancy, which I experienced my entire pregnancy.

You are giving me hope- knowing that you've had 2 full term babies!! :)
btw. I drilled my Dr about my bicornuate. The Internet is a scary place when you're researching your body. Good luck mommas!

Yup. If youre like me it means there is a septum in your uterus. Google pics of it it will help understand what im explaining I swear lol. Picture the shape of a heart. But since its made of cartilage and stuff as your uterus expands it slowly circles out and lifts the septum up making it smaller in length and flattening it out (imagine when you bend a belt to shape it like a heart and as you pull it back to lie flat the long part slowly rounds out).  I was told for me it could be a slight preterm risk since babies in the womb with a septum can be forced to stay down lower, but im 39wks now so safe from that :) its all good and nothing to stress about, esp since youve had two successful pregnancies already!
