Here I've found the bit about when u need to have worked.......

Also, you must have:

been employed or self-employed for at least 26 weeks in the 66 weeks before the week your baby is due
been earning at least £30 a week over any 13 week period

Your entitled maternity allowance if you have worked a certain number of weeks since being pregnant or just before conceiving. If your not entitled to it you are entitled to employment support allowance which is basically job seekers allowance just you don't need to do all the active job searches.
And have a go at filling in a housing benefit form and send it off, you never know you could get some off them. I did it n I am about to receive £75 a week housing benefit

You will get your child benefit of 20.30 automatically,  you should entitled to child tax credits if you only have one income coming in - i get almost 40 a week. You could also look at income support which may give you up to 70
a week. Are you eligible for any housing benefit or council tax reduction?  also you get your statutory maternity pay or if you are unemployed you are entitled to maternity allowance, which is 136 a week.  If you phone the advice shop of your council, they can run a check for you to see what you may be entitled to,  and then you apply to them as directed, that's what i did x
