I would say in all sincerity that if someone has been on antibiotics for a week already, that they are probably not contagious any longer.  good luck

Hi there.  Do you mean you already have the baby and you are wondering about someone being around the baby on antibiotics?  well, that can be complicated.  In general, antibiotics treat infections.  Some things like strep that you treat with antibiotics are contagious and antibiotics work within 48 hours (can be around people, no problem).  But in general, lots of things that antibiotics are given for are not contagious such as a sinus infection. That is bacterial in your sinuses---  you can't really give that bacteria to someone.  BUT, the reason why most people have sinus infections, bronchitis, etc. that they take antibiotics for is due to a primary virus that gave them the secondary infection.  So, a cold ---  that IS contagious that caused 'gunk' to get thick in sinuses, bronchial tubes or lungs and then that festered into an infection that you need antibiotics to treat.  The initial virus is contagious and for how long varies.  Usually a week, I'd say.

Pneumonia can be contagious until about 48 hours into antibiotics (the viral kind that some will have treated with antibiotics any way).

So, does that long winded info above answer your question?  :>)
