im in labor....but not in labor?

So I have 9 days until my due date and have been having contractions for three days now. Tonight I went to the hospital with severe back pain. They monitored my contractions and checked my cervix.  Doc says im in labor but my contractions are irregular....has this happened to anyone else? If so how long until active labor? This is my first baby.

I had contractions with my second for a little over a month before they finally induced me 11 days overdue. They were sometimes constant, but didn't intensify or stay constant. They told me they were Braxton hicks because they're definition of Braxton hicks is any kind of contractions, dull or painful, that are not putting you into active labor.

Yeah laying down and relaxing is a good way to help elevate some of the discomfort. I like taking hot showers and then laying down to read a book or watch a movie.

Mine were 3-5 minutes apart with smaller not as strong ones inbetween but when she checked my cervix I was only 1cm dilated. She told me maybe tonight or within the next few days.....three days of contractions has me completely worn out!
