Officially due tomorrow and 1cm dilated.... upset...

Well I am officially due tomorrow and there has been no progress since week 38.  I am still 1cm dilated and 0% effaced.  I am really really upset about it and am sick of waiting.  I am starting to wear down mentally and getting uncomfortable physically.  Doctor wants to see me next week, and has booked an induction for the thursday next week....

Roke- that's not too bad a weight! My daughter was 8 lbs 8 ounces when she was born and she was still tiny and I pushed for only about 10 minutes (and only because I had to take long breaks between pushing because I kept throwing up).

thanks, the ultrasound showed a weight of 8lbs 13oz!  I hope it's wrong!!  Baby is doing good, so they sent me home to wait it out.  I have another NST tomorrow.

Good luck! It doesnt sound like your going to need inducing!!! I never understood how they can be booked up and send you somewhere eles to deliver. They did that to a friend of mine, 3 hospital while she was in labor because they were all booked. I would just show up and say im not leaving untill I have my baby, lol:) Hope to hear a birth story soon!!!!!

Well I lost my plug this morning and went into the hospital - my contractions were anywhere from 3 to 6 minutes apart.  I can still handle them as of right now.   Dr. sent me for an ultrasound, but they could not get me in, so they sent me home.  Dr. now wants to induce me today instead of thursday next week (but hospital is too busy - they won't do it)...  but will call if others go home and they have room for me.

Yeah, I am definitely hoping that I dilate quickly, however my mom didn't....  I am not sure how big this baby is, as I have only gained somewhere between 10-12 lbs.... I am all belly (and boobs).

I was induced at 39 weeks due to mild preeclampsia.  But my doctor was not only concerned about that, but also that the baby hadn't dropped and I was barely a fingertip dilated - plus he estimated my baby to be too big for me to push out (she was 8lbs 9oz).  So if you don't have anything to concerned about then I would let nature takes its course, I kind of wish I did but at the same time I swollen beyond belief and my BP was increasing (plus I was having rapid weight gain).  However, I totally understand how you feel, my last month was the worst!

From what I've heard, you can dilate rather quickly.  If you are already dilated and are induced, that will help it go quicker.  Good luck!

Thanks - I sure hope that the baby makes an appearance soon.

He has never said anything about the baby being too big or anything and I would imagine he would if he thought there was a problem.

Has the doctor checked the size of the baby in recent weeks?  If you due now and that high up, maybe the baby's head is too big for your pelvis.  There wouldn't much point in inducing you if the baby won't fit through your pelvis.  Just a thought.....

Hang in there!

I am sorry. You are kinda lucky that your Dr. will induce you once you are one week late, my Dr. waits TWO!! I was 1 cm for weeks, I had my son 2 days before I was "due" but it turned out his gestational age was 41 weeks, so he was actually 1 week overdue. I wouldn't wish the end on anyone. It is so uncomfortable! =(

Hang in there, and I had crazy sex at the end.. I don't "know" that it helped, but the sperm does do something, I am not sure what, I can't recall and I dont want to misinform you, but it definitely does something. I could barely walk either, so I did as Joy mentioned, walked up and down my stairs..

Again, hang in there.. I think they come when they are damn well ready.. The end of pregnancy is awful and uncomfortable, but just keep your "eye" and thoughts on the prize!

((hugs!))

I'm sorry, it stinks to be in your position.  I am due Aug 2 and was kinda feeling the same way.  Went to the doc Monday, and was still only 1 cm adn my cervix was really "high".  Very discouraged, b/c I was 1 cm three weeks before!
Last night, (Wed) I started having painful contractions.  They continue this morning, are getting more regular, and accompanied by a little bit of bleeding, so i think today's the day!!
My point is, things CAN and DO change quickly; you could be 1 cm now and have your baby tonight, so try not to be discouraged.  Now that mine is on his way, I'm like, OMG! I'm not ready!! LoL I am frantically doing dishes, laundry, cleaning, and packing before I call the doc.  (Of course, I also had to take the time to check in here, hehe.) So enjoy the time you do have before your little one comes.  It won't be long!!

Oh, you poor thing! I never went to term with my pregnancies, but I remember how uncomfortable I got just before I delivered my son at only 36 weeks.
There are some "home remidies" you can try. Its said that eating pineapple can start labor. Walking, squats on an excercise ball, SEX... thats a big one!! JoyRenee is right, sperm can cause cervix softening and contractions, and orgasm causes contractions too. I'm sure you can find even more ways if you google it... a word of advice though... I WOULD NOT try castor oil!! I had a friend that was desperate and drank some... no labor but she was in the bathroom all night with HORRIBLE cramps and well... you know...
Best of Luck to you!! Hope that little one comes soon!! Let him/her know that they are being served an eviction notice!! LOL!

Well I try to walk at night and during the day, but there really isn't anything I can do about it if the baby decides it doesn't want to drop.

I've heard about the sperm helping, and I really do want baby to come out, it's just getting to be tough now.

Yeah, once baby drops a little, their head will help efface you (by grinding on it- sorry, not the best word to describe it but that's how I envision it). Effacement is really what helps get dilation going.

Even if you can't walk much I'd definitely do some walking, especially up and down stairs. You could also try doing squats. It is believed (not sure if this is medical or not; someone can comment on it if they know) that sperm helps soften and dilate/efface the cervix. So it might be worth it to try, especially if you really want baby to come!

I really haven't tried much, as I can only walk for about 20 minutes at a time before I am completely exhausted.  As for sex, I am just totally uncomfortable and really am not that interested in it at this point.

No he didn't sweep my membranes as there wasn't much happening.  I think he is going to do it next tuesday to see if that works on getting things started.  He didn't do it today as the baby's head is still really high up.

Once they're in your arms you'll have forgotten this time, when you were just so uncomfortable and so ready!

You can literally go from 1cm to complete (10cm) in hours, so don't be discouraged. Stress can actually be very counter-effective when trying to induce labor.

What things have you done to try to help your body go into labor (such as sex, walking, etc.)? Did your doctor sweep your membranes today?
