inductiom

Kinda a silly questions but im Wondering how many doctors will induce at 39 Weeks? My friend was induced at 39 Weeks for no.reason just cause she wanted to. My son who is now 3 was a big baby 9 pounds 3 ouces I tried to get my doc to induce me with him and he said no. are my chances of induction better with my second? My reasoning is my sister lives out of state and can come in a week before my due date to help with my son but she has to leave the day after my actually due date. Should I ask doc or will he think im nuts and just say no agian?

I found out yesterday that I wont be offered so much as a membrane sweep before 41wks. They will let me go to 12 days overdue before attempting induction. The doctors and midwives here in the UK really dont like to interfere for all the reasons posted by FreshLove.

Having been induced myself for the wrong reasons (a doctors convenience as I was in hospital and it would free up a bed), I wouldnt recommend it unless it becomes necessary as it was awful, my spontaneous labour and delivery was a wonderful experience.

My son was 9 lbs 3 oz and 22 1/2 inches long. He was born at 39 weeks. With this pregnancy they are inducing me at 39 weeks. I had a late sonogram and the baby is measuring big, so they don't want me to go passed 39 weeks.

If you are only 17 weeks than how would you know you will need induction by then???
Maybe you would give brith before that since anytime after 37 weeks is full term.
Your doctor might said yes or no but you really have to play it by ear as the date draw closer.

All doctors are different. Some won't induce until 40 weeks and others will only induce if you go a week over. If you ask this early, the answer will probably be, "We'll see if it's necessary" or something.

On a side note, you really shouldn't be induced unless medically necessary. It increases fetal distress, is MUCH more painful then spontaneous (natural) labor, and increases the chance of a c-section (for reasons including fetal distress and failure to progress). Getting an induction because you are tired of being pregnant is not a good reason and just increases the chances of complications for you and baby. No matter how small those chances are, I still wouldn't take unnecessary risk for my baby.
