insurance question

Hi ladies. My husband's work for the air force. Soo we have tried care as our insurance. Today I got a mail from them saying they paid $457 etc. For my last check up. I am just wondering if that how much you really gotta pay with or without insurance just for a freaking check up. I mean they just ask MW how I'm doing check my blood pressure check my baby's heartbeat and that's it. Oh they check if I still have the bacterial vaginosis and if I still have any other infections by peeing and a swab.  Seriously? Just for all that. I mean I ain't paying anything but its still my insurance. Or their a rip off?!?!

I think some people may have misread her post. She didn't have to pay anything out of pocket, she was simply astounded at what TriCare had to pay for the appointment.

I am also tricare and you should have any out of pocket expenses if you have tricare prime. You just call them and they fix it for you every time. You shouldn't have to pay for any thing except some co pays for medication.

I'd call tricare and ask, every time I have they end up covering the bill. I have prime though, so it may depend if you have standard or prime. My bills were always just urgent care visits but they always ended up covering them.

There is no standard cost for care in the US. For example heart surgery in CA might cost $75,000 while the same surgery could cost $5,000 in MS. It also depends on what insurance company you have. Each insurer creates separate contracts at different price points for the same provider/facility. So a prenatal appointment with Dr X might cost $100 with Blue Cross Blue Shield but cost $200 with United. It is so stupid. In the next few years the federal government is pushing to make costs more even across the board. The problem with going without insurance is if anything goes wrong, like time in the NICU, you could end up in a serious financial situation. Most bankruptcies are caused by medical debt.

That's ridiculous?  I lost my insurance at 34 weeks and had to pay for my appts out of pocket and for my regular check ups they were like $78. I paid $60 there then they billed me for the other $18...
