is there a difference?

Is there a difference between a scheduled c-section and an emergency c-section?  My mom said the incision is different and an emergency c-section is much more painful to recover from.  Is this true?

When they do an emergency c-section...they cut quick...and do what they gotta do to get the baby out quickly...this causes trauma to the soft tissue and there is usually some tearing...scheduled sections are  quicker to heal because the cuts are clean and there is minimal trauma...usually no tearing. So yes...there is a difference but they are done the same... :)

The only major difference is one is expected and the other isn't! The incision will be the same...the recovery would depend on how well the person reacts to pain and the circumstances that caused an emergency c-section in the first place..technology has come a long way...ill be having c-section #4 in July.

An emergency one may be harder on a person especially if their bodies were working hard to get baby out... an elected one doesnt have that issue to deal with and the muscles and area were not doing a crazy work out prior to getting shifted around and what not....

My last delivery ended in a c section but it wasnt an emergency in anyway... it was a last resort as i never progressed past 7cm after being induced...in the end she was stuck so it was the only resort but by no means was there any rush to get me to the OR so it was pretty relaxed and my epideral was working AWESOME :) so i think that i was able to be much more relaxed working up to it and my recovery was nothing, no pain, couldnt even tell i just had major surgery...

I have a couple friends who had true emergency Csections where baby was in distress followed by elected with their next delivery and they said the recovery was night and day... so i really think its what the body went thru prior to surgery that makes the difference...

In emergency they used to do the vertical incision but now technology is so upgraded that they do the bikini line which is better. I had a planned c-section and my recovery was awesome no pain what so ever. Havent had an emergency one so i really wouldnt know.

An emergency C-section isn't always scary. My friend had one after pushing for an hour and half and no progression. They gave her a spinal block in theatre and gave her a normal c-section. If there is a real emergency like the baby is in distress and they really need to get the baby out then they may use a general anaesthetic.

The incision isn't different between planned and emergency section. They use the horizontal incision on the bikini line. The other type they do is a vertical incision but i think its rare that they do that.  The vertical incision i think takes more to recover from but usually there isnt a difference in recovery time from normal to emergency it just depens on the circumstances of the emergency.

I know with an emergency it's super scary. I had one with my son, I was sooo freaked out. Everything came out fine in the end, I'll have my scheduled in July :)

The only difference I can think of is the planned one they would do a spinal and for an emergency one they might knock you completely out? That's what they did on my sister in law last week. The babies eary rate kept dropping and they didn't have time to do a spinal so they put her to sleep.

I've had a scheduled c-section it was fine :-)  my cousin has had an emergency and a scheduled and she said her hooha and her belly hurt like hell after her emergency one because she was in labor for like 30 hours and her cervix got bruised somehow from trying to push.  Oowie

The difference doesn't hve anything to do with the pain...its still the same record erysipelas time and the incision isn't based on either...the difference is a planned c-section is PLANNED...it's set on a specific day and you go in early to hve the baby while a emergency c-section is NOT PLANNED...something could happen & they need to rush you into surgery...its lot less stressful whn its planned...ii had an emergency c-section and its just scary.
