laxatives during pregnancy

I've been having constipation so the doctors precribed me with a stool softner. I've been taking but I have no difference in bowel movements in fact I haven't gone in like 3 weeks. So I am wondering if its okay to take laxatives. Ill be 36 weeks in two days. My mom had told me that she and her mother took 10 laxatives to go into labor. I was wondering if it is safe to take like one? Because I want to hold off going into labor for the babies health and because me and my boyfriend are in the process of remodeling our house.

Call ur doc and ask about taking milk of magnesia. My doc said she gives it to her patients with serious constipation problems..

Laxatives in general aren't good to use. Frequent use of them causes your body to become dependent and your body to not function as it would otherwise. Infrequent bowel movements also are harmful and increase risk of impaction, perforation, etc. What's your diet like? Lack of fiber (or too much fiber, especially all at once) plays a huge roll in it. You need to also make sure you're drinking adquete amounts of water to introduce moisture into your body and help keep things running smoothly.

Laxatives are not good to use during pregnancy the amount of force in pushing could tear the skin and also force baby down in a harm full manner it's similar to pushing during birth. What you will want to try is a stool softener one to two pills a day to soften the stool because after being in there so long the mass can or could be very hard and then watery or the wax looking enema once stool is soft enough. And lots of walking will help push the stool down. I had been so constipated because I had been on pain medicine so it made it like I hadn't gone for a month it hurt so bad when I was at the store buying the stuff all the walking made it so I had no choice sorry If its TMI good luck and hope that helps

Def call the Dr! Laxatives severely dehydrate you so I can't imagine they're good for the baby

I agree, you need to contact your  ob and ask what you can use. Three weeks is a long time without a bowel movement.

Call your doctor, it is pretty serious if you haven't had a bowel movement in three weeks.  He might prescribe a laxative, or he might want you to be seen.
