He should be able to say a few more words and over the next couple months should be talking in two word sentences such as "more juice" or "where mommy"... Work on expanding his language by elaborating on things that he says.

At 18 months your son is doing well to be saying all he's saying now, it's only been over the past month my daughter's started to learn new words and try and say them :)

I have a 20 month old and she doesn't really say many words yet either she just babbles, she can say mummy, daddy, hey, bye, love you and some people's names and there's a couple of songs she sort of sings but other than that she'll just point to what she wants or chats in baby language lol. Don't worry yourself your son will find his voice eventually and so will my girl, I find its good to point at things and say the word over and over again or if they point at what they want and you say the word like if they're pointing at their juice I say to my daughter 'juice? You want juice?' And she'll say 'yeah' so I point at it and say 'juice' and then give it to her and sometimes she'll try say the word back to me or next tome she wants it she'll point and try and say the word

I don't have my baby yet (fingers crossed for tomorrow) but on the news last night this subject came up saying a lot of toddlers need speech therapy now. Maybe see if you can take him to a local speech therapist for some guidance apparently it helps wonderfully. But at 18months he's probably exactly where he needs to be, by age 3 someone who isn't related to him should be able to understand 80% of what he's saying, so if he's able to communicate his needs to you now at 18 months that sounds pretty good.

I hope other mums who have babies similar age can reply to you,
