I did breastfeeding and baby care basics. I did NOT do the Lamaze class. Lamaze is pretty outdated. I would go for a class on the Bradley method, Hypnobirthing or something more up-to-date. Lamaze breathing is RIDICULOUS and the least helpful.
I forgot to ask him at my 19 weeks appointment and I wont see him again now till I'm 23wks. I will have to make a list of questions to ask him then.
Brittny,
My insurance company knows I’m pregnant. They’ve got me enrolled in this great program where they send me books and info on what to do and who to call if I ever find myself dealing with budget issues. They are supposed to help me find a doctor and a location where childbirth classes are either free or low cost. It is a great program and I think ALL insurance companies should have that. So that could be a way for you to find out.
Also, my doctor is filling me in with everything I need to know in regards to childbirth classes etc at my 23rd week visit. I’m not sure if all doctors operate the same way, but your doctor should be able to tell you who/where/when those classes are offered.
How far along do they usually start you taking classes? I am interested in Breastfeeding and child birth classes but have no clue who to talk to about them or where to turn to. I thought about calling the hospital and just asking them.
I'm taking a weekly hour class already and every week the subject changes. It's about pregnancy, nutrition, birth, child development and it goes till the child is 2 years old. I don't think I will be taking it that long. It's a pretty neat course. For each class I take and BF joins we each earn 15 points and they have a little boutique with community donations that you can purchase items with your points. Some items are brand new and some are used. Depending on if there new or used depends on how many points they cost. Things change every week.
My doctor is supposed to talk to me about it at my next prenatal visit. I know she will send me out to the hospital where I'll give birth to my bebe. They will show me around and will also give me schedules of childbirth classes. I will mention the breastfeeding class as I will be breastfeeding. I'm also interested in the CPR class. My next visit is scheduled for April 30th. I'll be 23 weeks :-)
thanks ladies - good idea with the poll. I should've added that I signed up for the hospital tour as well
I'm not far enough to think about classes yet, but you just made me think up a good poll. Wether or not lamaze is worth going to...I'm already CPR certified, but the hospital tour was the best part of my pregnancy. I had DS by c-section (breech) and they showed me everything, the suite I'd be in, or at least one similar to it, and they took me into the O.R. so I could see it, scary looking, but I'm glad I saw it before I went in.
i could a childbirth prep class and a breast feeding class...plus the free hospital tour and registration. i did my childbirth class all in one day and i thought it was pretty beneficial...the breast feeding class was REALLY helpful and im super super glad i decided to take it...i learned a lot and feel much more confident in that area! over all DF and i got a real kick out of our classes..it was fun!
I did child birth prep, infant care, a hosipital tour (free), and breast feeding. My child birth prep one is 2 saturdays in a row for 4 hours each one since it would be good since I have never gone through child birth. Description said it wasn't all lamaze, but had some of the relaxation techniques.
I think I will sign up for infant CPR too, but these classes already took up 4 weekends in a row then I have my shower couldn't squeeze in anything else for now...lol.
