trying to have a baby

so i have been trying to have a baby for almost two years now with no luck. i do already have a 5 year old. now at first i was wondering if there could be a problem with my significant others possibly sperm production or something else. now i come to find out when that relationship ended he started dating someone else and she was pregnant within the first two months. me and my husband have been trying to have a baby for two years with no luck. i have tracked my periods, although they go month to month on a certain day then they change to i get them on the wrong days or i miss a period or it comes 2 or 3 weeks late. so now i really have no idea when i ovulate because my period comes when ever it wants. also i had some bloodwork done that showed elevated prolactin levals, now i researched that and that can cause a problem with fertility. however i saw my OB/GYN and he says all other hormones are fine so it probley isnt an issue it can be elevated because of stress and other factors. now i have quit smoking, i take vitamins everyday, i do everything ive ever read to optimize my chances, such as no smoking, vitamins, best positions that give optimum delivery of sperm, ive cut back on caffiene, better diet. my doctor wants to give me a dye test to check for blockages and go from there...i was just wondering if anyone had any advice or went through this already or just anything i am so despreately wanting a another child..

Yea but having Sex everyday is the issue...the Sperm is stronger when you only have Sex every other day...It can swim faster and longer (according to my doc) so maybe you're getting too much ??
Or maybe you're not Ovulating...?

Have you ever tried the good ol fashion way of just having sex every other day?? I know that sounds weird but it's a lot easier than trying to track when you Ovulate or when your Periods due...and if you're doing it every other day you're bound to catch when you're Ovulating. Good Luck!!

Yep, I've known of several other women who've had the dye test done and turned up pregnant within 1-2 months.  Something about cleaning out your pipes that makes it easier for the sperm to make it up to the egg.

As for charting your cervical mucus, get the book called Taking charge of your fertility.  She describes what you should look for and what is considered the most fertile quality.  I also use their software to chart and it's set to automatically know when I've ovulated based on my cervical mucus pattern.  Quite handy.

Generally women start off with sticky, then it goes to creamy, then it gets watery/clear and then when it resembles raw egg whites is when you are most fertile and conception is ideal at that time.  Most women have fertile quality mucus for around 4 days and then usually the day after it goes back to infertile very quickly (like creamy or sticky or even dry).

Check out her book though, it's a ton of help.

I feel your pain.  We've been TTC #4 for 2 years and 8 months now.  Have you thought about using OPKs?  Do you chart or temp?  I chart my cervical mucus and that helps out tremendously.

I had a good friend of mine who had a lap done (cleaned out her pipes) with the dye and 2 months later she was pregnant with her first.  I'd say do the dye test to make sure everything is okay and maybe talk to your Doctor about fertility meds?

Good luck to you and I hope you find yourself pregnant again soon.  It took us 7 years to conceive our second child and the third came 21 months after the second was born.
