Is non hormonal IUD safe for me??

Ok, so today I went in for my annual PAP. I've been on the nuva ring for a few years. I have one child, and don't plan on having any more. I am only 30, so my doctor doesn't want to do anything completely permanent yet as far as birth control. So she mentioned this IUD that has no hormone. No one I know, knows anything about it....and I have alll the questions, even after I asked a bunch to my doctor today. I don't know that copper being inside your body for that long is safe. My boyfriend can feel the nuva ring in me now, will he feel that? It said in the information pamphlet that you have to check it once a month...but if it's that far up there, how are you going to be able to feel anything wrong or right with it? I'm used to periods which last three days thanks to the nuva ring....i don't know how much longer a 'long period' is? how bad really is the cramps? did anyone lose sex drive at all? we have it quite often, and i think i'd die if i didn't!!! HELPPP!!!!

I've heard about the copper, & where Im from they no longer use it because of the problems that it causes. The mirena is the same thing only plastic, & it lets of a small amount of hormones. I had it for a year, & it was amazing in the time that I had it. The iud's like this have strings, very small & cant be felt by you boyfriend, if he can feel them then most of the time your doctor could shorten them. It didn't interfere with my sex drive, the cramps only lasted that day, my periods were more like spotting after the first 4 months! the first couple of month's it lasted maybe 2 or 3 days. I never checked it once a month, more like when I thought about it!

I wouldn't trust copper in my body that long, but that's just me! I hope this helped!
