Lol I know its was a long post, but I can defiantly relate, oh and btw, the TENS machines you can rent, or they have them and physio offices. Don't go out and buy one unless your sure it will help u, as they are expensive machines! I hope you get some relief with the belt, I find it helps with that pressure of the baby pushing down. I hope your able to find lots of resources to help make you as comfortable as possible, pregnancy is wonderful, and even more amazing when your not hurting all the time!
Ugh... I hate this part of pregnancy! Like someone else said it can sometimes immobilize you (for me it was out of nowhere when pregnant with DD#2, too). I would be trying to get up from laying in my bed and the sharp pain would stop me dead where I was and I just couldn't move. Hope the support belt helps!
I have had this pain for years and pregnancy aggravates it big time for me. A chiropractor is a good option if you can do it. Stretching is always a good thing as well. For me, it never goes away until I give birth! I end up barely being able to walk at some points!
THank YOU SO MUCH =) I was considering the maternity support belt even before this shooting pain started... I think ill see my gyno and Ill bombard him with Q i have !!!
Yep your exactly right, its sciatica(sp) anyways, I've had this for the last 8years due to a fair severe back problem. I get pains running down my bum checks, legs all the way to my feet, and I have a lot numbness as well, conjoined with other pain. But I'm not almost 29weeks pregnant and it started to get worse around 25weeks. Its most likely the position of your baby, pressing down on a nerve. When you sleep, or lay down, lay with a good support pillow between your legs. Unfortunately, I haven't found any of the exercises helpful, but you can ask your doctor about which ones would be best for you, as I do not no your body, certain exercises can actually aggravate the nerve more! But try ice on your lower back and bum, that may help the inflammation around the nerve come down a bit. Other then that you can talk to your doctor about a TENS machine, they are actually being used in labor now, it sends electrical impulses through the nerves, and can be very effective. And its completely safe for baby, unlike medications! There are medications that are safe during pregnancy that help with nerve pain, one being opiates, and the other being nerve blockers, personally I am on pain meds for my back pain, but the nerve blocking medication, I don't trust. That's a personal choice. But seen as your not having constant pain,(for me I get those sensations all the way down to my feet, with every single step) then I would stay away from meds as longs as possible! Also sometimes after delivery it can take a little while for the nerve pain to stop, advil or ibuprofen are very helpful, it takes down the inflammation around the effected nerve.(These medications, even though they are over the counter, are not safe during pregnancy, the reduce the fluid around the baby.) But check with your doctor if your breast feeding first. Also I don't know if it would be useful to you, but have you tried a maternity support belt, it helps with the pelvis pain, back pain, and some nerve pain(at least for me anyways).
okay Thanks!!!!! at first it was really dull, and i hobbled when i walked, literally like a old lady, now its always dull, but bearable and recently i get SHARP shooting pains, like a contraction in the butt.... LMAO how else can i explain it ??!!
ugh. I had this with my now 5 yr old. It started this way & then at times became immobilizing. it got REALLY bad when I changed any positions.
I went to a chriopractor of sorts that specialized with pregnant women. He did some manipulation to get the baby to move, which helped. If I would get on my hands I knees for a minute, maybe rock back & forth...
Unfortunately, it just got really bad as I progressed. Then more towards the end it eased up. I don't remember exactly how long it lasted..... eventually the baby grew & moved from pinching that nerve.
I would recommend seeing someone for this.
