problems with constipation

Ok, so I am 6 weeks pregnant and the littlest things seem to make me constipated. I mean I could eat rice for dinner one night and then be bound up for at least three days. Its ridiculous! Does anybody have any suggestions (besides the obvious...stay away from rice.LOL) Thanks

Ah, Joys of pregnancy. Haha. Obviously Fiber. Plenty of foods that contain fiber, such as Bananas. Here is a list I found online, I hope it's helpful.

I also believe some prenatal vitamins contain stool softener, but that's something you'll have to discuss with your doctor.

Good luck!

I am 7 1/2 weeks pregnant and i have the same problem.  I have been putting spinach, apples, and carrots in the juicer and it really works well.  It tastes good too.  I also have been eating peaches.  Peaches always seem to work for me as well as raisin Bran cereal.  Watch how many bananas you eat since these will make you even more constipated.  Hope this helps.

My doctor had me to mix prune juice and orange juice with a lot of pulp...it worked in like 15 minutes! LOL

Also, he suggested I take a stool softner called Colace. It also worked for me.

Lastly, in addition to the suggestions by the other ladies, I also drank Metamucil...it kept me regular.

Hope these suggestions and I hope you feel better!

I had that problem too when I first got pregnant.  My Dr. said not to use laxatives, but Benefiber was ok.  It worked wonders for me.  Now when ever I start to feel constipated again I just put some in with my morning shake or mix it in with some form of  iquid I am drinking & I don't seem to get bunged up!

I used to eat frosted mini wheats and the fiber from that cereal made me go every day.  You could try that or maybe activa yogurt.

You could add Benefiber to your food/drinks.

Make sure you ditch anything that will dehydrate you (coffee, tea, pop) and drink 8-10 glasses of water a day.

Buy some Tree Top Apple Juice or prune juice. I mention Tree Top because it is the best de-clogger, so to speak.

I wouldn't use any laxatives unless directed by your doctor.
