I just had my son's done and tricare covered it. I had to do it at the doctor's office when he was two weeks old but I think that's just the way the hospital here does it. You might want to talk to tricare beforehand though because we had to get a referral to have it done.

Oh okay well hopefully I can just have it done at the hospital then cause I'm having him on base

You probably wouldn't need the referral then cause it'd probably be done by his doctor. I'd stop by the tricare office and talk to them, they'll be able to tell you what you need to do.

Did you ask your doctor if it was considered cosmetic? It's not considered cosmetic where I live, in NY, I asked my doctor before we found out this was a girl, because I wanted to make sure he did circumcisions (new OB) and I had heard it was cosmetic, and he said that it wasn't, so I would ask your doctor if you haven't already!

My doctor was actually the one who told me it was considered cosmetic...she told me if it was something I was considering that I would need to look into if tricare still covers it

Idk maybe she was wrong I don't really care for my doctor anyways I'm glad I only have one more appt with her

Really? Maybe she's one of those people against getting it done so she tries to put it down, maybe all doctors are different! I'm not sure. Are you switching doctors??

Well at least you'll be able to find a doctor you feel comfortable with, I switched my doctors because I felt smarter than my doctor, haha!!

It is cosmetic now.. and the new FDA recoomendations is that risks and benifits are equal and there is no medical reason behind it thus it is cosmetic. It does not prevent infection and complications are high with it as apose to not.. ultimately though just so you can understamd what your son will go threw I suggest you watch a video on youtube or google of a baby getting one. Its only fair that you know that they use NO ANESTHESIA and strap your little boy to a table while he screams.. I was gunna circumsize until I educated myself. Sry.

Kamlia, you've made it VERY apparent you're not for circumcising, but I'm sorry, I'm going by my doctors opinion and not someone on a forum, if he says it's not cosmetic, I'm going to listen to the phD. I'm not going to argue your facts based off from youtube videos, and from personal experience, there are MANY more infections when the child is preteen, and teen, because they don't understand the magnitude of cleaning it correctly, and I have been with an uncircumcised man, and it does create problems with sex life, SO anyway......She wasn't asking opinions on circumcising, she was asking about insurance...

Im not against circumsizing.. i didnt mean to come across as judgemental its just in the haste of commenting and using a mobile app with autocorrect lol I firmly believe to each his own and there are benefits to circumsizing and benefits to not. I have no preference sexually and have experience with both. My problem came to HOW they circumsize here in the US. If it was different and under anesthesia it would be more apealing but it is rather brutal so the desicion for my boys will ultimately be up to them later on in life when they can go under general anesthesia and have it done if they want. I wouldnt judge them for doing it either. My comment was merily to say that it is now a generally** reconized cosmetic proceedure (not that everyone or every dr sees it that way)  meaning that alot of insurance companies dont cover it (fact). Another peice of informatiob is that all animals have foreskin and no problems. It has been built in for a reason BUT everyone needs to be comfortable with their own body. Just an opinion.. not an immature confrontation to start a debate.
