real contractions?

How do I know if im having real contractions? I went to the doctor this morning and everything was fine.but about an hour later I was in the store and I felt this popping feeling in my vagina and then it was followed by a horrible constant pain. After it went away I started walking again and I got another sharp pain and I did that at least 7 times and I was in tears because it hurt so bad. Once I went outside to the car and sat down it wasnt as bad but I still feel the tightening in my stomach and a lot of pressure on my lady parts. Im  almost 36 weeks but I thought I was farther along the whole time. I live 45 minutes away from my hospital I will be delivering at so how far apart should they be before I make the trip down there.

I would just go to the hospital to be seen. I had contractions for two days and didn't know they were contractions, i didn't go to the hospital till i was 3 cm dilated and didn't even know i was in active labor, all i was feeling was period like cramps, i had no idea they were contractions, I'm glad i got checked even when every one said they were Braxton Hicks.

Im just gonna lay down for awhile and see if they get worse. Every time i stand up or walk it gets a lot worse.at first I thought my water broke because it felt like a pop but no liquid came out. So I don't know what that was.

Trust me hun , if they are real contractions you would know! This pain does not feel like any other & the more you wait the more intense it feels. Maybe you are experiencing braxton hicks.

About 5 minutes...but you can always go back to the hospital before you go home to make sure you are having actual contractions and not just braxton hicks still..they will also check you to see if you've started dilating

Those sound like they might be contractions but you would have to call your doc or mid wife to ask for sure. And my sister in law just had a baby yesterday and they told her to head there when they were about 12 min apart. But she lives very close to her hospital and her water had broken.
