Air freshners

I know I ask so many questions, I'm sorry! This is my first time being pregnant and I don't know who else to ask. I tried looking this up on the internet first but couldnt find anything. So we have two cats in our apartment and one of them is really stinky when she uses her litterbox and we usually spray an air freshner when she is done. But I was reading that it isn't best to use them often during pregnancy. So does anyone know what is safe to use regularly and that will actually work?? It needs to really cover odours because she is really smelly haha.

Ask as many questions as you need!

I would go with something a little more organic and safe. Nature's Baby Organics makes a PU Deodorizer that is all natural and smells absolutely amazing! I just did a review for them of the product and I loved it so much. I use the deodorizer spray everywhere.

Also you may want to try Seventh Generation. Products that are all natural and don't contain harsh chemicals are the way to go.

You know....I have one of those small plug in air purifiers....it has a little filter in it and it cleans the air. It works fairly well for my litter box. I also have a smelly cat!! LOL and DH takes FOREVER to change it!!

Oh wow, I was not aware of how expensive they were. We used to have a cat, but my husband changed the litter for me, and then our daughter started having weird bumps on her body, breathing problems, etc. and come to find out she is deathly allergic to cats, so we had to get rid of the kitty. So, I just never really looked at those things.

i know i thought about the automatic litter boxes but they are so expensive! we might invest in it later on, closer to then the baby comes, but for now we just dont have the money for it. its about $150, and then the inserts every month are like $30 or so. well we have two cats, actaully right now they are still kittens, so its hard to do a diet because if we do that she will eat all my other cats food. so they have to get the same amount. we have tried giving her less, then she takes from the other one haha. she eats everything. but when they become adults we are going to switch foods, because theres more options for adult cat food. i work in a pet store so i know all about food and try to have them on a good dry food. we also have a good scoopable litter. she is just amazingly smelly for such a little thing lol. however i truely hope our next place is set up so we can have it in another room, because i think thats a big issue. alright i will try all of these things and hopefully one of them will work! as much as she stinks i still dont want to get rid of her, both of my cats are my babies haha. thank you guys so much for your help, it is definietly appreciated! :)

Okay this is my thing,  Hubby is super forgetful.  Our cat box is in our spare bathroom.  the bathroom that connects to the baby room, which of course he dont need lol.. so thats where her cat box and food bowls are.  And we buy tidy cats, with amonia block, and sented pearls.. it helps alot.. and I try to make hubby change it everyday, at my moms she only bought sheap stuff that wasnt sccopable..  I made hubby buy the scoopeable, even though its really expensive, but it  was really bad for me when i was in my first trimester.  i like literally dry heeved everytime we walked into our apartment, cause like you we had her box in our living room closet at our old place cause it was only a 1 bedroom place.  it drove me nuts.  we had one of those air plug ins in every single outlet.  and we also bought those like scented stix that you put in a vase and set places, those helped alot.  and we also used fabreeze, and tried to keep windows open as much as possible.  Now we dont have much of a problem cause her box is pretty much hidden, and we switch cat liter.  but my cat doesnt go much anyway cause shes on a diet.  she only gets fed once a day, and a certain amount.. maybe try starting a diet or something so the cat doesnt go as much.  but i def, think fabreeze is okay, or even get lysol for the air.  Ive also realized that candles arnt good for blocking odors so thats def. a waste.  good luck and i hope you get rid of the smell.. i wanted to kick my cat out so many times during my first trimester cause I couldnt take it, but Im glad i sucked it up cause I love my kitty lol..

ooh thats a good idea maybe you should try that cause i thought about those for awhile!! she goes outside now so i figured i'd save the money cause i knew i was gonna train her to use the dog door eventually but if your cat is gonna be permanently inside it would be a good investment and worth the money.

have you tried one of those automatic litter boxes? They clean the box immediately after the cat goes potty in it. Then you dont have to worry about it being changed and maybe it will eliminate some of the odor from her. I am not sure that it would work just a suggestion.

well i cant change the litter now that i am pregnant, so sometimes the bf isnt home when she goes, so i dont really have any other choice than using some sort of air freshner until he gets home to clean it. AND it migrates super fast, so even if you change it right away, its already in the air haha. yeah i think ill get febreeze now instead. and try putting some baking soda in the litter box as well.
and that sounds like this little girl, by far the smelly cat i have ever seen (and i worked in an spca and i work in a pet store now haha)

ive never heard of them not being safe. but i would assume that febreeze would be fine because it eliminates odors by killing bacteria in the air...so it's not really masking the odor with overwhelming smell.
our little cat was SUPER smelly before we house trained her...best thing to do is scoop it out right as they use it.

Febreeze is safe to use and now they have the air fresheners with sensor motions on them that you could put near the cat box and when the kitty passes in front of the sensor then it will automatically go off... I think those are kinda neat especially since you don't have to be in the room to spray it yourself. (I think glade and lysol both make them =) Febreeze would be safe as long as you don't stand directly in it and if you are worried about breathing it in then hold your breath, spray and run (lol as funny as that sounds) I think the ones with the motion sensors on them seem like they would work the best for the kitty along with the plug in!

Yeah I was thinking of having some sort of air plug in by the litter box. However the plug is right above the box, so I'm hoping it doesn't bother them. But I would still need something to help with right when she goes, the little girl is very smelly haha. Something I can spray right away right after she goes so I can breathe. Is Febreeze safe to use? Can I spray it and breathe it in while I'm still in the room? I think I will also try adding some baking soda to the litter box and maybe that will help a bit too.

LOL just making sure I didn't find out about the cat box thing until my first doctors visit... so you never know (I am having my first baby too almost 25 weeks).
I wonder if one of those air purifyers you plug in would help like an ionic breeze?  Maybe plug it in by the cat box?

I would say try an air plug in. I use scent bugs (Made my Bath and Body works and they have a little fan that you put oil in and they last forever) and it makes your whole house smell so much better. I have stinky dogs and use air freshener and baking soda carpet freshener and it makes everything smell a lot better. I have noticed that I have to change the "flavors" of the air freshener about once every two weeks because one smell for too long seems to no longer smell good to me. Febreeze is also good to use because it eats the bacteria out of the air and leaves a clean scent =)

Well thats the problem, its only a two bedroom apartment, so the litter box is in the same room as our living room (the only other rooms are the bedrooms and bathroom, the kitchen is connected and beside where the litter box is too), so its impossible not to breathe it in, or be in the other room. And no I don't clean the litter box, my boyfriend does, we know all of that, thanks though! So thats why I was looking for something that was a little more safe but still works. We have tried scented candles (even soy), but they dont do anything.

I have never heard that you cannot use it, but I would make sure the area has air circulating and not be around the airfreshener or breathe it in (go into the other room after you spray it).
Also, I hope you are not the one cleaning your cat box?  You probably already know this but pregnant women are not suppose to clean the cat box at all.
