setting up the crib

This might be a little silly of a question coming from someone that already has 2 kids but I've never used a crib before. Just bassinets and pack n plays until a year old, then toddler beds. Well I set one up today and the mattress doesn't fit how I'd like it to. There's a gap on every end unless I push it against one side, then there's a good 2inches left on one side, maybe 3. Is that normal? Should I push it against a rail and roll a blanket to fill in the gap? I don't trust it at all really bc if one of the babies roll without, a blanket they'd get stuck and if I have a blanket there, wouldn't they suffocate? I need help!

They do in Aus, my cot (crib) is bigger than standard & I had to get bigger mattress & sheets. I would definatly check it out & don't just accept it because it's not right. After all it's your precious bubba's safety at stake.

They have wider ones but you may have to go to an actual baby place like babies r us to find them. Just like changing tableau are not all the same size for the pad.

Sounds like something isn't right, there shouldn't be a gap in that size at all. Could something have been set up wrong? Or the crib may have something wrong with it.

I don't know what that means..like the crib is bigger than standard? Do they sell wider mattresses? I've seen thicker ones but not wider

It may be a Boori size cot with just a standard size mattress

Yes, that did. I'll try it and see how I feel after it's done and I can actually look at it. I was about to call my bf at work and tell him to bring an ax home so I could chop it into a billion pieces

It just sounds like a huge gap, can you go back to where you got it from & ask them about it? Not sure where you are, but in Australia it wouldn't meet standards & couldn't be sold like that.

I know there is a big controversy about whether or not crib bumpers are safe. Well, we had this same issue with our crib matress. The only solution we could find that we felt comfortable with was using the bumpers. We stuffed at least half the height of the bumpers in between the  matress and the crib slats. This made for a very snug fit. But it really comes down to what you feel comfortable with as far as your babies safety is concerned. Mommy always knows best. Hope I helped.

That's very very dangerous, it shouldn't be like that. You should get a new mattress that fits.
