six times more likely to have stilbirth if...

I recently read an article published in 2011 stating that pregnant women who sleep on their backs are 6x's more likely to have a stillborn......this scares me I am 19wks now and I truly cannot control how I sleep i fall asleep on my left side but awake in many positions, my rightside, back, even my stomach still. How can I force myself to sleep on leftside only???

I used to sleep on my back, and tried my hardest to sleep on my sides but always ended up on my back. Starting around 26 weeks though, I will wake up if I go on my back because I can barely breathe from all the pressure and I'm dizzy. I'm carrying twins though and already had 4 pounds worth of baby by then. I think your body will tell you when you need to stop sleeping on your back, in the meantime don't worry about it :)

My doctor and prenatal class teacher always say it's honestly more important to get a good night's rest (which is so hard the later in pregnancy you are!) than worry about the position you're in. Pillows do help though :)

Yea deff use alot of pillows! thats what i do im 34weeks 1d and i occasionally wake up on my back.. I use a body pillow and kind of wedge it behind my back and sleep on my left side ( best side to sleep on for baby because of max amount of oxygen) And then i put a pillow between my knees on the left side.. That way if i kind of flatten out the pillow keeps my somewhat elevated so that im not on my back completely.

I slept on my back throught all 3 of my pregnancy's, I use a lot of pillows so when I am on my back I am proped up to almost sitting. When you are futher along you will wake up all through the night to change your sleeping position.
