smokers??

Are any of u ladies smokers and if you are how often do you smoke daily? I'm a smoker and it's a lot harder to quit than I thought it was going to be and I am worried about what it's going to do to the baby, I'm 28 weeks and 2 days.

I smoked the whole time I was pregnant with my daughter and she came out weighing 8 pounds. She hasn't had any problems. She's 4 now.

I'm not a smoker but I know your baby could develop asthma, or a cleft lip(which should have been checked at your 20 week anatomy scan), it can cause prego term labor. Some people smoke and nothing happens to the baby which seems weird...my cousin smoked and is pregnant right now... She's went into labor three times ( way early like 20 some odd weeks) and has to be on bed rest now. I'm not trying to scare you or put you down or anything but I would do my best to try to quit, hun. :) try getting candy or suckers or something to occupy your mouth

Ok well when I went for my 20 week scan they said every thing was going great but I didn't know they could check for asthma or cleft lip that early, do they do that automatically or do u have to ask them about doing those tests? And like I said I'm 28 weeks already so do u know if she could have already gotten those problems already from my smoking?

I am 35 weeks pregnant. I was a heavy smoker before I got pregnant. I found out I was pregnant when onward 5 weeks. I quit COLD TURKEY. Sure it's hard & I still do crave it, but the little effect I got from smoking was not worth the long term effect my could develop. No judgment, every one is different. But I couldn't even light a cigarette knowing my baby would be getting the smoke also....

When you're pregnant you have to sacrifice a lot. It's selfish to choose to do things that could harm your child. I know it's hard because I use to smoke before I got pregnant & I love drinking when I go out to eat or after a long day at work. But all that had to stop when I found out I was pregnant. It's hard but it's worth it should be worth it for your child. Just think of the health out reef your baby. It's only 9 months.

I was a smoker when I found out about both of my pregnancies. Each time I was able to just stop. And not give it a second thought. Just think about the risks it could cause. And try not to beat yourself up. Not everyone has the will power other people have. But I know it does affect the baby and I'm not gonna preach. Just google it and ask your OB or midwife. But I know it doesn't mean you love your lo any less. Just try your best. Every one you turn down counts.

Also. Don't make excuses for yourself. Or you will never stop. Don't try to justify the cigarette. Think of your baby and the cig being on a scale and which is more important.

Well if you can quit that is always the best but its really hard I smoked cigs the whole time I was preg with my first born I tried to quit but I never could I cut back a lot tho and thankfully she was born healthy and she is a 17 months now and is very smart and healthy and I will be 36wks Mon with my second and have smoked this time too and I'm not saying its. The best I wish I could stop but don't let other people put you down as long as your trying your best to quit or cut nacky that's what matters

I was a heavy smoker before I was pregnant. Like a pack and a half a day. Then one day the smell and taste of my cigarette made me so sick. Like puke out of my nose sick. Took a pregnancy test two days later and haven't smoked since. I do miss it sometime, but I feel healthy. I don't know if I'll start back up. I guess we'll see when I start drinking again, since that's how I started smoking in the first place.

But if you want to quit, I would suggest doing it now. It is unhealthy for baby and there are so many bad things that could happen to your little one. But if you can't quit completely, maybe only smoke half of a cigarette each time and maybe you'll start slowing down to a complete stop because everyone knows relighting cigs tastes nasty. Lol. Good luck!

I'm 22 weeks, still smoking, but cutting back and working on it. My baby is healthy so far, I'm still working on quitting but everyone in my home smokes and are stubborn to help me by going outside or whatever. I have a tobacco program through my hospital to help me quit I get free diapers for a year if I'm quit by the time the baby is born, which is another great incentive to help me. My tobacco lady gave me a list of some of the chemicals in cigarettes and it's enough to make your skin crawl and I've cut back since then. Maybe try keeping a list of all the nasty things in them to help you quit, when I feel I want one I just look at that and I don't want one so much after that.

I was a smoker before pregnancy. After I got a positive pregnancy test I quit cold turkey. My doctor told me that people use the excuse, that it will put baby in stress if u quit and she said that's not true. Everytime u smoke you are literally cutting off oxygen to your baby, and that's far worse than "putting your baby in stress". The first three days are the worst but it's not impossible for u to do. Baby's can be born prematurely, very underweight and have athsma. And just because some people smoke their entire pregnancy and nothing happened, doesn't mean that's the same outcome for everyone.

@jenz21, that's a very unfair statement to make. Just because someone smokes cigarettes while pregnant does not mean they don't love their baby. Have u smoked? It's very hard to quit for some ppl, but you are to say if she loves her baby she will quit? Yes, it's not the best obviously I think she realizes that or she wouldn't be concerned about it. You don't have to comment rude things. If u don't agree or have any advice just keep scrolling.

Thank all of you for your input I really appreciate it. But I have cut down and when I do smoke I only smoke a half at a time, I've also stopped smoking in my house which really helps cause I'm not breathing in all of the second hand smoke also it's just very hard for me sometimes especially when I'm stressed out...

Keep in mind my mom never once smoked when she was pregnant of me but was exposed to second hand smoke since the people next door were heavy smokers and I came out asthmatic my lungs swell up if I hang around a smoker to long I found out the hard way. Rushed to the hospital and almost died. Just imagine that could VERY well be your child having the same problem I do I really don't think any mother wants to see their child in the hospital with breathing tubs down their throats watching them struggle to breath!
Lord my mom felt guilty and it wasn't even her fault!
You really need to stop don't do it for yourself but for your child!
!!!Asthma is NO joke!!!
I pray your child hasn't already developed it!
-Good Luck hope my story may help.
