When does the first baby usually engage?

Im over 39 weeks pregnant and my baby still isnt engaged!!! Everything I read online says that for first time mom's baby usually engages a few weeks before labour. Does this mean that my little guy might not come out on his own?

Inducement isn't so bad. Sure there are those out there with bad experiences but there's also those with good ones. So far I've only had a good experience with it, and the only person I know that had a bad experience was only because due to a car accident she had years before, her pelvis would not spread for the baby which made her get stuck and the doctors have to do an emergency c section. Me on the other hand, I went in the night before so they could give me the meds to ripen me, next day they broke my water, and with the epidural, I literally laughed through delivery which only took a short time of pushing. I remember my doctor saying you know the epidural is working when a woman is in the final stage of labor and laughing at the corny jokes everyone puts out. Lol. Its different for everyone. I can't say that I'm not scared of delivering this little guy when I'm induced here on the 18th, but I know I at least have a doctor that will do everything to make sure I am alright so that puts me at ease a bit. It could go great again, or it could be one of those that could be better. So far all one can do is pray for the best!

Engaged means the bbys heads down in your pelvis ready for delivery ! & yes on your 1st they should engage early as my daughter did, although my 2nd didnt engage even when i was in labour so i wasnt aloud to sit down i had to walk & sway to make him come down luckily he did just in time as i was being preped for a c section, now im 34+4 & shes bin engaged over. a week, sit and sway on a birthing ball it helps move them down. Good luck !

With my first the whole engaging thing did not happen naturally. I was over 41 weeks, no dilation, softening, nothing. Inevitably I had to be induced to get her out for both of our healths. This time, though I do have an inducement date, its different for me. The little guy has been dropped since week 34, I've had dilation, and the lovely pains to go with it. It just all depends on your body and the baby, no matter which number it is.

I'm sorry...I'm a ftm...what does being engaged mean? My doctor never tells me anything unless I ask.

My first baby never engaged!! I hate to be the first story on ur post n it ends in a c-section! My doc ordered a u/s because baby would bounce up whenever he checked me for dialation. Two reasons she wasn't engaging, first the ambilical cord was wrapped around her neck, second, after measuring her head n my pelvis, her head was bigger than my pelvis!!! My doc then scheduled my c-section. Not posting this to scare u, just telling my own personal story. Your story in the end will be very different than mine, I'm sure!! :-) goodluck hun!!

I'm not sure to be honest, I just wanted to give your post a bump up there. However, I'm a ftm, and I've been engaged since 28weeks. I'm hoping my little girl stays put for at least another 4weeks! I'm only currently 33wks+ 6days. Hopefully your baby becomes engaged soon!
