My first pregnancy/Ton of ?'s

I'm 8+1 I live in Southern IL and it was extremely hard to get an appointment. One place wouldn't fit me in until June 5. By then I'll be 13 weeks. I thought that was way too late. The place before that I didn't like the way they operated. 1. The claim to call you back to schedule the appointment in 1-2 buisness days but didn't for over 2 weeks! I thought that was careless to the health of me and my baby. Then when I asked about it they were rude and like we'll do you want to go somewhere else? 2. If your doctor is not available when you go in labor one of thier partners will deliver your baby which happened to my friend a few months ago.
Finally after calling my last option they were able to get me in in less than two weeks.
I want to know what time is good to get your first appointment in?
Also this doctor I found is a Family Practitioner not OB/GYN. Is that ok? Her office said she has been delivering babies for 30 years.
She is not delivering anymore after this year is over. Which made me think I won't have the same doctor to deliver babies in the future which would be nice? Do you usually try and use the same doctor?

You all have helped. I ended up calling up to the hospital mother-baby unit and spoke to a nurse who was nice enough to answer my ?'s.
She said that the doctors work in teams and whoever is available delivers someone in thier teams babies.
My friend also said her doctor informed her of this upfront and she had visits with the other possible doctor as well.
This family doctor does deliver babies though. Her nurse said she has been for 30 years. I do want to call back and ask is there any possibility that she won't be able to deliver for me and I will call the office back at the hospital as well.

Wow thats different to Australia. We see our normal clinic doctor. They send you to pregnancy care at the hospital. You do the normal monitering with them and at 34weeks you meet the doctor whos going to deliver your baby and you usually have weeklys with them till your baby is born.
I hope you get your answers as i would be completly confused. And how rude to not call you till 2weeks after.
Best of luck :)

I didn't see my OB until 12 weeks so I would think that's normal...? My family doctor didn't want to take on my pregnancy.

I'm from west frankfort but moved to Florida last July. I'm 35 weeks with my first so I havent had a baby in illinois no. but I don't think the family doctor would be able to deliver the baby since that isn't really what he or she would be trained for.

I don't think so had this hosp. I remember being there two days after she had her baby and them saying the doctor had until 72 hours to come see her which he did.

Maybe her doctor was delivering another baby. It happens. But for the most part your OB will deliver your baby.

If you have a family doctor and you go into labor the odds are will not deliver your baby. I have an OB who will come to hospital at 2 in the mornin to deliver my baby if necessary. An OB/GYN is specialized in pregnancy and women's health. A family practitioner studied it in med school and probably delivered some babies but that is not their expertise

in my area where I live you can see a family dr but once you hit like 32 weeks they refer you to an obgyn for delivery. I didn't see my obgyn until I was 12 weeks and I am using a different dr from when I had my son. My hubby was military and we lived in nc and now live in ohio. I liked both of my drs the first was a woman and now I have a male dr...both are great :)

You mean if I have a family doctor she may not be the one to deliver the baby?

As long as your pregnancy isn't complicated you can stick with a family doctor for the whole pregnancy I have heard. Probably not the best idea for when delivery comes and the doctor on call delivers and you've never met them, but for now it should definetly be fine. I'm from southern IL myself and know how much a pain it is lol

My first appointment wasn't until I was 11 weeks. As for the other questions I can't be much help sorry. I got to a OB/GYN I don't know what the difference would be in that or a family practitioner.  Anyways hope this will bump ya up and you can get some helpful answers! Congrats and Good Luck!

I'm a ftm and didn't see a Dr till I was 12 weeks exactly. Dr told me it was good because at that point you can actually see ur baby in the ultra sound. But I did start my prenatals right away! Can't answer the other questions sorry ;/
