I planned to breastfeed but I ended up not producing much milk and I dried up completely within a week. My son had no issues with the Enfamil formula. This time I will try again to breastfeed but I plan to suppliment with formula wither I make milk or not this time around.
i breastfed my second son for three weeks and had to stop cause I got a serious infection (had nothing to do with feeding), but I did not want to take any chances in him getting it. My best advice is to pump and use a bottle to feed at least a few times a day so your child can get used to it. But once you decide to quit even if your child dosen't like it dont give in cause you will only confuse your body and the baby.
thank u very much for ur quick reply, much appreciated :) x
Not at all. babies are actually harder to get "on the boob" than on the bottle in most cases. While some babies will resist changing to formula from breastmilk, most find bottle-feeding to be a lot easier because it involves less work for their mouths, so MOST babies will transition to formula easily.
I breastfed both of my babies for about 2/3 months and had no trouble transitioning to formula, although I didn't want to. The best way to transition a baby is to pump your breastmilk and put it into a bottle with a breast-like nipple (you'll have to try a few out to get one that baby takes to) and I personally mixed breastmilk with formula until my babies got used to the taste and then they switched over no problem.
BUT...with that said! Breastmilk is by far the best food for baby and if you can continue to breastfeed baby, it gets easier with time...so you might find that after you get over the initial struggle that most women have with breastfeeding, it's easier and MUCH cheaper to stay on breastmilk! If I could've breastfed for 6 months or more with both of mine I would've, but I had no choice with mine due to medical problems and it was heartbreaking. Having a great support system is usually the defining factor between mommies who can continue to breastfeed and those who must transition, so make sure your partner is ready to be super supportive no matter whether you continue to breastfeed or not!
Good luck whether to decide to breastfeed for a week or a year, it's a GREAT decision to at least give it a try and see how it goes!
