a few questions for a first timer about taking care of baby!

okay so im new to this and i need a little bit of help before i go shopping. :) so i just have a few questions.
1) what is safe for baby to sleep in? (gowns, onesies, or pjs [bodysuits with connected footies]?)
2) when do babies transition from newborn nipples to slow flow or does it depend on baby?
3) what am i really going to want bodysuits and little baby tshirts for if i already have plenty of onesies?
4) is it safe to leave the mobile hanging in her crib? its on the opposite side and if it were to fall it wouldn't fall near her.
5) what brand of diapers do you prefer for little girls? also what type of wipes or does it matter?
6) i looked at some reviews at babiesrus and saw that tommee tippee and gerber NUK are the most liked bottles, your opinion? i am formula feeding.

thank you!! any tips outside of these questions are appreciated also!

1)Sleep'n'plays are a must. Cotton for warmer days ,fleece for cooler

2) I cant help with this on as I exclusively breastfed

3) Onsies. i hate the tshirts as they keep coming up.

4) Mobiles are fine as long as they are secure. Remove once they can sit up usually 5+ months.

5) Swaddlers till he outgrew the sizes. I tried every diaper and found target brand to be the best both in value and comfort.

6)Again I breastfed. Fionn wouldnt take a bottle.

1) Sleepers (footed jammies; fleece for winter and cotton for summer).
2) Have to watch your unique child. Don't go buying all the accessories for one brand of bottles as your baby may not even end up liking it and you can't return used bottles.
3) My baby lives in onesies. Matter of preference; you don't HAVE to have anything else if you enjoy your baby wearing onesies.
4) Never used a mobile; waste of money. I'd put my money toward something else.
5) Hate Luvs; Pampers and Huggies are my diapers of choice. Some babies have reactions to certain diapers so make sure you buy your diaps from a place you can return unopened packages in the event your baby has a reaction to them. I used Pampers with my newborn but as she got older switched to Huggies.
Pampers Sensitive are THE BEST wipes and I've used many brands. I love that they come in packages that can be resealed so I can just toss a packet into the diaper bag. They have never ripped when wiping baby either. Huggies wipes are AWFUL.
6) Avent, hands down. I know many reviews say they leak but the bottles have been redesigned and if you put the nipple in correctly they won't leak at all. They also have a breast-like nipple which will aid in proper jaw development.

1. I our mu son in sleepers. I liked the variety. They have the thinner ones for the summer and the warmer ones for the winter... They gowns wernt as nice in my oppinion because they didnt keep his little legs warm, he was a wiggler though.

2. Just look for babys cues... When baby signals they want more faster with geting fussy etc... then it may be time to change it.

3. I put my son in onesies for the first few months unless we were going somewhere out then I would put him in an outfit.. t shirt and shorts or pants.. I liked the way he looked in them.. But I have always been one to dress him like a little man.

4. Mobiles are great tools to help baby drift to sleep but they have to be installed properly and as others have said once baby is big enough to stand and pull then it needs to go.. another great idea is a soother that attaches to the crib. My son loved his.

5. I have always used Pampers, but after reading a post I may try luvs. My son peed through the Huggies everythime when he was a newborn.. I also LOVE pampers sensitive wipes. I still use them with my son and he is almost 2.

6, My son wouldnt take anything but Dr Browns. I bought a ton of the drop ins bottles and he refused to take them... I would reccomend just buying a few different kinds then send Daddy to get a bunch of the ones baby likes....

1.  My first three slept in the gowns, but my youngest slept in a Onesie plus the fleece Swaddler you get from the hospital.  After a few weeks, he outgrew the Swaddler, and we went to footie-pjs.
2.  My 8 month old JUST switched to 3month+ nipples! LoL  He liked the newborn ones better for a looong time.
3. Hated T-shirts, they ride up; we mostly wore cute onesies that we like an outfit in themselves, or with shorts overtop.  One piece outfits are best for many reasons: don't have to find a match, one piece to watch, easy for diaper changes...
4. Mobiles are completely safe.  I had to take my son's down roudn 6 months, tho, because he became obsessed with it and kept rolling onto his back to see it (he will only sleep on his tummy.)  Then he couldn't get rolled back over!
5. pampers for newborns, then i switch to the walmart brand around size 2-3.
6.  We've used Playtex and Avent bottles.  None of my babies were ever picky about   bottles.  If you use a pacifier, tho, try to get the same brand as your bottles.

1. I use sleepers.  It's cooler here so I put a onesie under the jammies for more warmth.

2. Babies vary.  Some may like the #1 nipple for awhile while others may not.  you have to judge that yourself.

3.  I do have a variety of different clothing.  I guess it what you prefer depending on the climate you live in. If it's cooler...dress baby warmer.

4. Mobiles are definitely safe if installed correctly.  I never used a mobile.  I bought the seahorse (glo-worm type thing) from Toys R Us.

5. I used Pampers Swaddles with both my babies and continue to use the Pampers brand.  Prefer it over Huggies.  I also prefer Pampers wipes.

6. I like Avent bottles.  Never had a problem with them and the girls took to them right away.

I'm sure you are going to get a variety of answers to these questions becuase everyone is different.  I have four kids and I'll answer with what I have done with them.

1) what is safe for baby to sleep in? (gowns, onesies, or pjs [bodysuits with connected footies]?)

I prefer the gowns for newborns then the one piece suits with connected footies.  If its really hot where you are you can find thinner pjs.  Keep in mind that infant/toddler pajames are treated to be fire retardant/resistant.

2) when do babies transition from newborn nipples to slow flow or does it depend on baby?

This really depends on the baby, some babies never use slow flow while others use it for quite some time.  Watch your babies cues and if it seems s/he is not finishing the bottle as fast as normal or if s/he is getting fussy while drinking then try the next size up.

3) what am i really going to want bodysuits and little baby tshirts for if i already have plenty of onesies?

I only used onesies...the tshirts get on my nerves.  The only time I really used the onesies is if it were really hot then I would just put them in a onesie during the day, if it was really cold I'd put one under their clothes.

4) is it safe to leave the mobile hanging in her crib? its on the opposite side and if it were to fall it wouldn't fall near her.

Mobiles are fine as long as you install it per themanufacturers instructions.  One baby is able to pull to a standing position its time to remove it.  I found one this last time that has a remote that I can use to turn it on and off to occupy the baby without actually going in and disturbing them.

5) what brand of diapers do you prefer for little girls? also what type of wipes or does it matter?

I've used the expensive pampers diapers and wipes and I've used store brands, etc.  For newborns I prefer the pampers swaddlers but huggies newborn are ok.  I do NOT like store brands for newborns.  Once they reach size 3 I use LUVS, they are usually cheaper than even the store brands and are just as good as pampers or huggies without the huge price tag.  As for wipes I use the walmart equate brand.  I usually get unscented simply becuase babies skin is so sensitive in the beginning.  I buy the bulk boxes of replacement packs.  While the pampers wipes are really soft, sometimes if you have say a really sticky poopy, they rip when you wipe.  The equate brand seem to be pretty sturdy.

6) i looked at some reviews at babiesrus and saw that tommee tippee and gerber NUK are the most liked bottles, your opinion? i am formula feeding.

My best advice on this is not to buy a bunch of bottles ahead of time becuase YOU like them or they get good reviews.  Get one of two of several different types to try and see which one YOUR baby prefers.  I have to go through this with ALL of my kids...while one may like Gerber another preferes the Medela bottles, etc.

Hope this helps!!

1. Depending on where you are and how the weather is. Sleepers are good for cooler weather, or with an air conditioner on, and onsies are good for warmer weather.

2. It all depends on the baby. You will notice that they are getting upset with not getting enough milk out and that's when you need to switch.

3. I don't use regular t-shirts, just onsies.

4. I use a mobile over the crib. If it's secured in place, there would be little chance it would fall. When baby is big enough to sit up and reach it (to pull it down) then it's time to get rid of it.

5. I just had my second son 12 days ago and I use the Pampers Swaddlers. I really like them and I don't think it matter if it's a boy or girl. As for wipes, I get the unscented ones and the ones that feel like cloth.

6. I use the NUK, though I think it also depends on the baby. My first son hated the NUK nipples.
