My daughters pediatrician said to introduce food at 4 months for my daughter. I felt her stomach wasn't ready so at 5 months, I introduced fruits, veggies and rice cereal. The rice cereal helps with her acid reflux.
The recommendation where I am is not before 6mths but my peadiatrician started my son on a strict introduction program at 5mths because he had severe colic and reflux affecting his growth. Talk to your dr if you feel there is a health reason to start solids early.
I was told by my baby's pediatrician not to feed solids until 6 months, because of the immaturity of the swallowing reflex and the chance of aspiration. Also, baby rice is all carbos, and if your goal is to fill a kid so she will not want to eat so often, you should stick with proteins. (Milk, formula.) Carbs burn off faster and the baby is hungry sooner.
ps -- Baby rice tastes awful compared to baby oatmeal. Try it before feeding it.
It all depends on the baby.
If he is having his full quota of baby milk and still is hungry, then it will be fine for you to introduce baby rice. You can use some of the baby milk to mix into a small amount (try a small teaspoonful first) of the baby rice and give him little bits of it from a baby spoon.
There are lots of baby packet foods and jar foods for 4 month old babies that you can slowly introduce to his taste buds.
Be guided by your baby because all babies vary. Even if you do introduce some of the baby foods for him, he will still need his milk.
Don't give baby any of your own cooked foods until he is much older. The reason is that the foods we eat contain far too much salt and sugar for a baby. If you do boil up some veg and potatoes you can mash a small amount to give him a tiny bit. If he does not want it or does not like it, he will spit it out.
I started my baby on baby rice when he was 6 weeks old, because he was not satisfied with just the milk. So be guided by your baby.
You can mix rice cereal with their milk and feed it to him with a spoon. . My daughter really enjoyed it and filled her up more.
Not before six months. Before then their digestive systems haven't developed enough to tolerate solid foods. Feeding babies solids too early can lead to constipation or to other digestive problems later in life.
