when do u really need to go to l&d?

Ladies pls help. I'm 38+2 getting closer..I have strong but irregular contractions. My husband has been asking me if its time yet. I kept on saying No. But when do u really need to go? Do I have to wait til my water breaks? I am confused. Ftm here..

Good luck to u southernmommy25! I know its disappointing to not have progress. Ive been 1cm for a week. My dr appt will be on wed so im hoping i made some progress too! :)

They told me when contractions get to be 5 min apart to go in. I went in last night tho, having contractions between 1 to 3 min apart but bc I was only dilated to 1cm and my contractions weren't as "intense" as they wanted they sent me home... The ride home was horrible, but after a couple hours they subsided enough for me to sleep for a few hours.. I'm still having contractions but now they've spaced out quite a bit... Dr appt tomorrow so I'm hoping I've progressed some.

Thanks so much..I guess ill know by then.. :) it doesn't take long proly 20mins without so much traffic..but the country road is so slick now I hope if it happens its going to be at daytime..or not in bad weather condition as we had white out few weeks ago it was horrible outside!

if the pain is gone then you are not in labour... believe me when your in labour you wont doubt it.... try and have  a shower or bath and see what happens and some walking... how long is your drive to the hospital?

Just wondering what if u had continuous cramping in an hour but goes away after? I really don't want to go in to hospital for nothing esp since we live out in the country :(

I feel ur pain hun. I slept maybe 2 hrs all night cuz of having contractions & my hips & tail bone killing me. I just went to bathroom & ive lost part of my plug (which in tirn made me throw up...i hate snot).

I just came from there n they say when contractions are 5 mins apart

My dr also said to drink a glass or 2 of water & lay down on left side. If ur contractions slow, its not "true" labor

They dont need to be regular just often enough to keep you. Im not sure why 12? I dont understand it. But, if i were you, id say go in when you feel u should. I didnt feel a single contraction with my daughter & i went into labor with my son at 27 weeks & didnt feel half of those either.

My contractions never got regular, id have a few 10min apart then id have some 5 min apart and sometimes they were 15 min apart. But they were always very painful, it was like period cramps on several bottles of steroids.

I was 3cm at 36 weeks and 100% effaced, never had a contraction or braxton hicks, when i was 39 weeks i started bleeding heavily and the hospital said if i filled a pad in an hour to come in, well i didnt fill a pad but i bled for 2 days and the said i was probably going to go into labor soon. On the 3rd day i started having mild cramping by lunch i knew they were contractions, i tried taking a nap but they kept waking me up and i knew i better go to the hospital, we left at 3 30, got there at almost 5 and they admitted me, and checked me and i was 6cm dilated..

Im confused by this too and currently texting all my friends lol where are ur pains? Mine are just along my lower stomach but just before them my whole tummy goes hard like its travelling down. There about 10 min apart at the mo but irregular ish. The pain isnt unbareable but making me grit my teeth lol

So it has to be a continuous contraction in an hour? I get strong contractions but its irregular..I really can't tell..

most time your water doesnt break on its own. My dr told me if i have 12 contractions in 2 hrs to go.
