women who formula fed

Was your baby sick often? When he/she does get sick is it really hard on them? Is he/she smart?

Im just feeling really guilty putting my son on formula. Can anyone comfort me?

There's nothing wrong with formula feeding and breastfeeding is not compulsory. I had to stop breastfeeding my son after only 4wks and felt so much shame and guilt, I'd just always assumed I would be able to and the only advice I got from friends and family was to keep trying. It made it really hard to talk about when my baby wasn't getting what he needed from me and I needed help to start formula feeding. 12mths on he still hasn't had his first cold, he's not overweight, he's very bright and he has a great bond with both his parents because we took turns feeding him even through the night. Better still, 12mths later I realised I had nothing to be ashamed of and breastfeeding is a choice it doesn't make you a better mum.

Its so wonderful to see so many supportive pro-formula mommies! I have had some questions about formula feeding but have been too scared to post because of all of the breast feeding crazies. I'm just so happy to read this post :) :) :)

My daughter was formula fed and she was NEVER sick. She was always a head of the learning curve and a head in growth! Do not let anyone tell you your doing the wrong thing!!! Your baby will bond just as well with you and be healthy. You shouldn't feel bad about formula feeding your baby.....I hate breast feeding freaks because either way your feeding your baby and keeping them healthy and they are not starving...I have not seen the difference between my daughter and a strictly breast fed child!!! And anyone who tells you your child will be sick all the time won't be smart or grow correctly is an idiot!!! My niece was strictly breast fed and was the sickest baby I've ever seen....your doing just fine momma you stand proud of your little one and the choices YOU chose :)

It's depends on each person. My son was breastfed until he was 9 months then formula fed. He got horribly ill from the formula but he's lactose intolerant. My doctor advised against giving any soy product formula because they are horrible for them. The one thing I notice with formula fed babies is they spit up much more often and are gasier. As well as gain weight much quicker. You Have To Do Whatever You Feel Is Best For Your Family and baby and don't feel quilty about it. I don't see a difference in how smart they are though it depends on the child. My son's very intelligent but I know other breastfed children who are not and some formula fed children who are very intteligent. When it comes to antibodies it really for the first few months to prevents illness until they get their vaccines. It's like a little booster shot through the mothers colostrum. They say if you don't plan on nursing you should at least try to give the baby some of the colustrum. That's generally the first 3 days. Good luck! :)

I have worked in PEDs for 7 years and have seen just as many moms formula feed as I've seen breast feed (if not more). Formula companies work very hard to make sure all the nutrients and everything that baby gets from breast milk are in formula. (You can actually donate breast milk to these companies for research purposes) the only differences are the antibodies that breast milk has (which only protect baby for the first 6 months or so) and that breast milk changes depending upon what mom eats.... Formula has all the same vitamins and minerals as well as DHA and ARA which are important for brain development. You are.doing nothing wrong by giving your baby formula and anyone that makes you think otherwise is just ignorant.
