Conserend about LP shunt

I am a 27 year old female who had a LP shunt placed Dec.23 2010 and am conserend about the outcome. I currently have a large hump on my back that hurts and does not look right. I don't know however because my Nerosurgen seems to think it is not harming anything. I would just like peace of mind that the spinal fluid collecting in my back is ok and not a problum needing addressed in the near future. If so how do I go about addressing this if my doctor won't?

Hi,
How are you? Are there other symptoms present? Risks of lumbar puncture include: bleeding into the spinal canal. headache after the test. hypersensitivity reaction to the anesthetic, bleeding and infection. As mentioned above, have this checked by another neurologist for another opinion to ease any anxiety and worry. Direct clinical examiantion is important. Take care and regards.

I'm sorry to hear you have to have a shunt, I have done some research on this topic.
So you have  Hydrocephalus  I assume? And this is to releave your ICP. The shunt is redirecting your fluid, and not absorbing where the shunt is flowing to. I think your if your doctor says its not harming anything and you feel differently, try to get a second opinion on this issue.  It is had to say what damage it would cause but if it is putting any pressure on any nerves it will put you in a lot of pain, and then damage the nerves. After a while that would need to be addressed, but you doctor might feel like this collection of fluid is just fall less of a worry than your increased ICP most likely was.   Hope this helps, this site is a great place to find other people with similar conditions. You should join the Chiari Malformation and Syringomyelia community, there are people in that forum that have shunts as well if you need more support!
