I woke up this morning and brushed my teeth and a lot of bright red blood kept spilllout. I take no medicines. What could it be? It really scarred me. I am a hard brusher, but always have been. ( I am 59)

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
How are you? Gingivitis or  inflammation of the gums is due to the long-term effects of plaque deposits. Injury to the gums from any cause, including overly vigorous brushing or flossing of the teeth, can also cause gingivitis. This presents with bleeding gums, bright red or red-purple appearance to gums, tenderness, mouth sores, and swollen gums. Have this checked by your dentist for proper evaluation. It is important that the inflammation is reduced. Take care and do keep us posted.

Brushing hard is not the answer for good oral health.....u may not be getting ur gum line good enuff as bleeding is a sign of gum disease.

Do talk to ur Dentist...and if u continue to have bleeding try a salt water solution and gargle....then return to brushing, but the bristles should not be hard nor ur brushing......

Good luck
