I can't think or remember

I've been having some problems for the last year or two that I am unsure how to categorize. I have memory loss, i.e. My favorite teacher that I'd had for two years was giving a presentation, and I looked at her and could not remember who she was. I knew I knew her, but I couldn't think of her name or where I knew her from. And another time, we were going to my uncle's house to deliver some dog food and we went and made a quick stop there. About twelve minutes later, I asked my mom when we were going to go to my uncle's house and she asked if I was joking. When I told her I wasn't, she informed me we were just there. And I got it then, but it was a few moments. I forget where I put stuff, due dates for schoolwork, etc. I also feel very numb and detatched, I have a hard time connecting emotionally, I am INCREDIBLY lethargic, sleeping ALL the time, my hair has been thinning, I have been using prescription strength deoderant and I still sweat profusely, but only under my arms. I lack ambition and constantly seem to be on autopilot. I've been diagnosed with depression and ADHD, and I have been taking medicine for both. I'm on Conerta and Welbuterine, and neither have helped me at all. I did lose forty pounds, and there was a modicum of increase in my energy, and I am now down to 164 lbs, but I am still experiencing all of the symptoms stated above. I am quite frankly worried. I've had numerous blood tests, including three thyroid tests, and one time, I was told I had the hormones of a post-menopausol woman. However, numerous follow-up tests returned nothing extraordinary, and I'm left with the question, "What do I do?" I started a low-dose estrogen supplying birth control pill, because a nurse practitioner suggested it, but it has been two months and I feel no different.

I have to agree with Tricias information. In fact both of the medications your on cause severe fatigue. Welbutrin also is knowen to cause extreme calmness, which would explain the lack of emotion your experiencing. I think it would be benificial to speak with your doctor about switching to new medications. You also stated that you felt they were not helping at all. You should look at getting your thyroid checked, as well as your blood O2 levels and Iron levels. Thyroid issues are often misread as depression.
If you really don't feel that your being treated properly make sure your going after your doctor too look at other angles. Because there is a reason your feeling this way and there is a treatment of some kind out there you sometimes just need to push your doctor to help you find it. I hope that info helps in some way :)

I am almost positive that the symptoms you are experiencing are due to your ADHD medication….. I have experienced all the same things, and doctors were never able to figure out why it was happening to me either!  I had to seek help from a rehabilitation center to get off ADHD medication….Not because I was abusing the drug but because the longer you are on it the harder it is to stop taking it (and most importantly it can be extremely harmful to your health to stop taking ADHD medication without some sort of medical supervision)….. I was off the medication for a year but unfortunately all the same reasons that I started taking the medication in the first place were still present….
So I started taking a different medication in the ADHD family….. things started out good, but I am slowly starting to experience the same affects as before- Weight loss, Bazaar memory lapses, loss of focus, very forgetful, no motivation, always feeling overwhelmed, lots of Hormone problems….etc.  Do you get crazy muscle spasms in your legs?? Do you have bad circulation in your feet? Do you get light headed easily for long periods of time when you stand up? Has your vision gotten bad? Do you ever feel like you are going to pass out after taking a hot shower? Is your blood pressure low?  I am only asking because those are some of the other crazy side affects that I have experienced with the medication…. I also believe that it causes severe vitamin deficiencies… which can greatly contribute to hormone problems…

I hope I was able to shed some light on what I believe to be the source of your symptoms….And at the very least I hope your able to find some comfort in knowing that your not alone and your certainly not losing your mind!!!!!

BUT PLEASE REMEMBER THIS: You should never stop taking ADHD medication without medical supervision!!!!!

Wishing you well,
Tricia
