If he has one ball bigger than the other, he'd better go see a doctor.  Is this really something that he wants to wait and see if it goes away?

I find men are more embarrassed to go to the doctor than woman about situations like this. I would encourage him to do so. Support him, and go with him.

Agree wth Londres. Pain + swelling + sudden erectile dysfunction needs a trip to the doctor. Tell your boyfriend not to be emabrrassed - it will be nothing the doctor hasn't seen many times before. He can request a male doctor so he feels more comfortable.

This sounds like a medical issue and should be addressed ASAP by a physician.

You should post in the Men's forum or the Undiagnosed Symptoms forum as well.
