Breathing Difficulties Relieved Lying Down

Hello. I am a very healthy 27 year old male. For the last two years though, I have had serious breathing difficulties. I never wheeze and can't remember the last time I've had a cough. My symptom is simply difficulty getting a deep breath. I will add that at the same in which this symptom started, I also began to have digestive problems. I had an Endoscopy recently  and H Pylori was found. I did the Antibiotic treatment, but can't say that my symptoms are any better. My stomach complaint is excessive gas. My question here though pertains to my breathing, but I am pretty sure the conditions are related. My question is this: can you think of a reason why my difficulty getting a deep breath is almost completely relieved when I lie down? I think this is very strange as most breathing and indigestion issues are worsened when lying down, but for me it is the complete opposite in both cases. My main concern is the breathing though as it is really effecting my quality of life. As I will not have health insurance for at least six months, I would appreciate any feedback at all. Thank you in advanced.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

You follow some good lifestyle measures for the bloating to decrease. Eat food rich in plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, avoid spicy and fatty food, avoid smoking and eliminate alcohol. Try to avoid carbohydrates. Do not swallow air excessively. Do not consume caffeinated beverages. Practice good relaxation techniques like yoga and meditation. Exercise regularly. Go for long relaxed walks. Maintain a food diary and try to identify those foods which are likely to produce bloating and avoid them.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Thank you so much for the reply. I am fairly certain that gas is the culprit. I'm doing my best to figure out what's causing it, but I unable to see a doctor at the moment. Hopefully when I do, I'll put this behind me. Thanks again for your insight.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

If your breathing problems are due to aerophagia, and as the air rises on standing, it can compromise breathing. Also, this can improve on lying down as the air redistributes and hence the consequent easing of breathing on lying down.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
