I have the exact same thing going on right now.. I am 30 minutes south of Dallas. I see this post is a year old but it's the same time of the year. Did u ever figure out what was going on?
About 3 weeks ago, my brother & I were sitting across from each other in a booth eating breakfast. He was off work because the week before, he had wrecked a semi-tractor trailer, because of these same type of coughing fits. At breakfast he began to cough for a total of 30-45 seconds. He passed out & fell into the floor. He's been seeing a respiratory doctor also. He has also been tested for allergens, as well as saw a neurologist. Their diagnosis was some type of allergen, or a respiratory infection. He was given steiroids (Prednisone) & an inhaler, & antibiotics. A week after he had that episode, i too came down with the cough, & eventually started getting dizzy. I do not pass out but I have gotten so dizzy that I'm sure a lot of people would. I went to my Doctor & told him of the symptoms. I believe there is a new strain of a contagious bug going around. I am currently finishing up my antibiotics, but I am still having these fits. I googled "I cough til I pass out" & saw your post. FYI, I live in N. Texas. If you live in this area, Grayson, Fannin county Texas, please let me know.
Hello and hope you are doing well.
It could also be seizure activity, due to lack of adequate oxygenation. Only an EEG (electroencephalogram) can help confirm this. This is done under the guidance of a neurologist.
Please contact your concerned physician at the earliest.
Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
I would greatly advise that the next time he falls to the floor and/or seizes, call 911 or the ambulance! There could be something seriously wrong with your husbands health issues! Don't give that choice to him. He'll eventually understand that you do what you do for him out of love. It sounds like there maybe something else going on in your husbands body that the dr's haven't seen yet or diagnosed yet. Talk to your dr. about getting him into see some sort of specialist who may be able to help him better than a family doctor. How long does he pass out for when this happens? Please keep us updated on his condition. Take care.
