Chest pain, trouble breathing, among other things (possibly genetic?)

A friend of mine started having respiratory problems, among other things. She's an adolescent teenager.

It started in the beginning of September, when she got a sinus infection. During the last week of September, she got a sore throat which lasted a few days, and started coughing up blood in the back of her throat. They were small coughs, but she said she could taste a bit of blood every time she coughed.

A week later, she started having breathing problems. She describes it as a sort of 'chest wall pain,' which is continual (meaning her breathing doesn't necessarily impact how much pain she's going through). She has difficulties breathing at times, and says her diaphragm isn't extending all the way, causing her to have shortness of breath and irregular breathing patterns.

Additionally, she has fatigue, general soreness throughout her body, and occasional headaches toward the back left and right of her head. The headaches are a combination of stinging, throbbing, and pressure. She feels thirsty all the time, even though she went through about four gallons of gatorade (doctor prescribed) in three days, along with water. She has a stuffed nose on both sides, and will occasionally blackout.

The doctor said she needed to consume more salts and try to be more active. She's been trying to be more active, but her exhaustion limits her. She's able to be nearly normal for an hour to two hours, but then her breathing problems intensify and she can't even sit upright for a good half hour or more, to recover. She can't stand for very long before swaying and seeming close to falling.

She's been out of school for over two weeks. She tried getting up this morning to go, but she blacked out on the way out the door. She's blacked out in the shower already, trying to get ready (different occasions).

A final note is her brother seemingly had the same condition last year, around the same time. He's one year older than her, so he would have been the same age as she is now. She found him unconscious on their kitchen floor, and he wouldn't regain consciousness for a good twenty minutes. They took him to a children's hospital, where he was diagnosed to have nothing wrong with him. He only ended up missing a week and a half of school, before he could go through a day without fainting. She has no idea the kind of pain he was going through, though.

I'm really worried about her and her condition, whatever it is. She may have to go to the hospital too, as she is not improving at all. She's completely housebound it seems and she's unable to complete her regular day-to-day activities. I'm posting on here to see whether anyone has noticed similar conditions in acquaintances, or if any of the doctors here have diagnosed similar cases.

It is a gradual process. Try to do the anulom vilom first thing in the morning before breakfast. Avoid cold drinks, but have warm water and warm/hot milk.How many minutes of anulom vilom can she do?

She's been incorporating your suggestion for the last few days, and seemed to start improving. She's been able to get back into school and be generally active.

However, today she seemed to be a lot worse. She has a normal first half of the day, then all her pain starts coming in during the second half. She seems to be in more pain and have more trouble breathing when she's under stress, as well.

Tell her to start doing this pranayam to get extra oxygen into the lungs and blood.This will in turn build up the immune system gradually, and she will get better a little at a time.Her progress on this thread in 3 weeks,3 months and later, will help others very much.
Build up your timing gradually.If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Anulom Vilom pranayam –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril  
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril  
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 15 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs.You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.
