Haemophilus influenzae

I am an asthmatic and for the last couple of years I have suffered with chronic chest infections. For the last 12 months I have been particularly unwell and every sputum test that has been done comes back as positive with the Haemophilus Influenzae virus. I have had numerous courses of antibiotics such as Amoxicillin 500 but the infection has not cleared up. I take my Symbicort 400/12 inhaler twice in the morning and twice in the evening and I also use my Ventolin inhaler frequently throughout the day. This condition is really affecting my quality of life and I wondered if anyone can suggest what treatment might improve my condition.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi, thanks for your comments.
I am seeing a specialist at my local hospital but he seems to take the attitude of "let's see how things are in a couple of months" approach and I am getting fed up of living like this. I have always been asthmatic but have been able to control it...but now I can't seem to get any improvement. I haven't worked for the last 12months and I can't do anything physical or strenuous as I get too out of breath.
I hope you find something to help yourself and if I should find any way of improving my health I will let you know!!
Good luck in the future.

I wish I could offer you some ideas. I too suffer pretty much the same way, and take the same inhalers. Do you produce a lot of excess mucous? I know of another asthmatic who does chest therapy to try to reduce the number of chest infections acquired each year, and it apparently helps a lot. Are you under the care of a pulmonary specialist? It is a good idea have one as this doctor can help you the best. I know the quality of life thing or the lack there of is very frustrating.
