Pain in my upper left back

Hi,

I have noticed for about a month that I have pain in my mid to upper left back.  Primarly if I take a deep breathe, or if I bend over and try to strech my back, and then worsen if I take a deep breathe while doing that.  I am healthy, workout often, and in my past, have had a rib out of place that was a similar pain but more inferior (above) the pain I have now.  I had my back cracked when I had that and that took care of the trick.  I feel like I just need a good crack, but wont be able to see a doc for at least a month.  Training for a new job.  I have a friend coming over here shortly and going to have her walk on my back.

I have read about the infection that might cause this, but I am currently on anitbiotics for a small throat infection and my back isnt getting better.

Any thoughts.

Thanks for all feedback

Oh, you mean "Pleurisy". Yeah, I've been told during alternating hospital visits that I do and don't have that.

I am not sure what it was called.  Something that started with a P like paleries or something.  I believe it was an inection or inflammation is some of the tissue of the lungs.  The symptoms were everything i feel, except like coughing and cold like symptoms which I do not have.  I feel great other than the pain when I deep breathe or try to strech my lungs and then a litle worse if I do that and breathe deep at the same time.  I bought a bottle of Ibuprofen today the pain in nearly gone.  But i know if I quit taking it that i will be right back.  Im sure its nothing major but I am a worry wart when it comes to health things.

I have had this on my right side since October 2008, I've had basically everything checked (digestive and spinal things), it feels muscular, and I want to believe that it is muscular, but I have no idea why it wouldn't have healed by now? I am a 24 year old average height and weight male.

Dpagel25, I haven't heard of any infection that causes this. You say that you've read about it, what is it called?

Muffle, how did you cure your issue? Did you just continue working out in hopes that the muscle got stronger? Also, was one of the symptoms of your issue that:  "take a deep breathe, or if I bend over and try to strech my back, and then worsen if I take a deep breathe while doing that." ? Please let us know. Thank You.

I had the same thing at least twice.  I work out often but it was so troublesome I did see a doctor who determined it was a pulled muscle.  It took some time to repair but it did.

Ive got the same pain as you have. I can do whatever with no pain from it but if i twist to my left and stretch or take a deep breath i feel this pain. Sometimes it feels more muscular to me. Ive had it for months. I do have a slight curved spine and my left lib cage looks out of shape so maybe its to do with that, if im not standing straight it could be putting a strain on a muscle there. Ive had a bone scan a while back and as far as i know theres not a problem there as im sure they would have contacted me by now as it was 3 months ago, but that was for another problem. Im fit like you too. I feel like i want someone to give me a good stretch, dont know about standing on my back .Best to get yourself checked out though.
