I smell wood burning often and it always makes me go around the house looking to see what's burning. As usual I never find anything burning. It can sometimes be a bit embarrassing when it happens somewhere other then in my home. I have never had a seizure, nor do I think I have a tumor. Sometimes the smell is so intense that my throat actually burns. Is there anyway to stop this from occurring? I have tried a netty pot and that did not work, also a saline spray, nothing.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have just recently started smoking vapor instead of cigarettes and I thought I was just getting my taste and smell back.  There have been things that haven't been right though. You have described everything that I have been smelling. I was just wondering if you have frequent headaches? I have had the headaches several years before the burning and other smells.

I have spoken with a Neurologist and he said that Phantosmia (phantom smoke) is usually a temporal lobe problem and the smell is a partial seizure which can eventually lead to larger seizures.  He also said to rule out (or in) tumors or seizures you need to have at the very least an MRI and a sleep deprived EEG.  I will be having mine done this week and into next week.  Good luck to all who are still searching for their answers (as I am still, too).

So I've also been having phantom smells but my smell is not of cigarettes, smoke, chemicals, burning wood or anything else burning...I smell freshly brewed tea. It smells really good so I haven't really thought much about seeking help for it. It's been going on for about 2 plus months & it's gotten to the point where I smell it every day, sometimes multiple times a day (I smell it right now). The past few days I've been getting mild headaches (& I don't normally get headaches) but so mild that I don't even bother taking anything for them. I don't recall having any sinus issues around the time I started selling these smells, am not depressed & don't have anything going on with my thyroid.

I think I'll seek the advice of a neurologist since I've started having headaches  too (assuming these aren't "phantom" headaches!) but does anyone else smell tea? I would love to hear about your experience!

Possibly the smell of the knats hatching on your person or in your nasal track. This is a warning!!
Wash your hair frequenty and cough from your gut when it burns your throat also use visine or other
artificial tears in your eyes. Evil plot by someone who wants to get rid of you, maybe not
for good, but for certain at the time that you are aware of the smell. Could be from your ventilation
system in your home or wherever you smell the "smoke". Beware if you have central air systems located
outside your home, that are easily assessible from city sidewalk. Take sips of apple cider vinegar once a
day to keep your natural body defenses in working order. Clean your home surfaces with bleach or another
good cleaner is Scrubbing Bubbes kills 99.9 % germs and bacteria. It's not your imaination, someone wants
you out of the way.  Keep your friends close, and know who your enemies are.

God Bless!

I started with the burning smell about 5 years ago. I had an MRI scan of the base of my skull to rule out a tumour. I then consulted a homeopath who prescribed sulphur 30. I buy mine in Whole Foods now. I just let 3 of the tiny pills melt on my tongue over 24 hours and this usually works for me. I don't know what causes mine as I have hypothyroidism treated with levothyroxine and I suffer from regular bouts of sinusitis. It is a very unpleasant smell - acrid. I was looking for a fire the first time I had it - it woke me up in the early hours of the morning.
