Phantom smell - Burning & Smoke

Hello, For a while i have been smelling a burning smell in my nose, kind of like smoke. It's not constant, somedays it's there and some it's not, i don't know what it is, i searched around and couldn't really find much, any info would be great.

Having suffered too, I read on this forum that someone had found that it was a symptom of dehydration. Since reading that, I have consciously been drinking as much water as I can stomach and haven't suffered that dreadful smell since. I had preiously spent about 9 months convincing myself that I had a brain tumour yet it was something so simple that not even a doctor could give me a cure. So, thank you wise forumer and I suggest that everyone try this ..... it's improved the standard of my life immensely :-)

I'm 21 and I have high blood pressure, been taking Amlodipine and Atorvastatin since last year but I stopped it for a while and now i'm back on it due blood pressure increase. 2 months ago I suddenly had this smoke smell, I didn't think anything because I did have them before, I can't remember if they started after I started Amlodipine and Atorvastatin. but this time it was followed by a horrible panic attack, something I never felt before, i was very scared of dying. Since then same thing happened at least twice but I didn't panic as bad as before or sometimes I don't panic at all like today I had the smoke smell but no panic, my eyes and face felt warm. Sometimes I feel as if someone is throwing rain drops on me, sometimes I feel headache and head pressure, I'm feeling very tired and sick since the burning smell and panic attack, I'm afraid this will never go away. When I tell the doctors they look at me as if I'm crazy or something.

I have recently started taking an antidepressant and also take a Dr. prescribed diet med. The combination of the two cause me to have a phantom smell I can only describe as "freon". Metallic and bitter. It's the strangest feeling and only occurs with the meds.

Did you ever find out what caused your smell?  I have just withdrawn from Fluoxetine, under a doctor's care, and suspect it may have caused my moldy and/or burning smell that are with me all day long.  Did you ever get your problem resolved.  I would appreciate your help!

Did anyone ever figure out what the problem was? I recently started smelling burnt wires or chemicals and I am rather disturbed and concerned. The thought of tumours etc is scary, don't even want to see a doctor.

I have been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and was wondering if anyone else has as well.  My smell is acrid but tolerable and comes and goes.
